Launch My Line

"I Want, I Need..."

On tonight's episode of Launch My Line, it's down to the final four teams but only three will make it to the finale. Dean and Dan meet up with the remaining players to fill them in on their challenge, along with Elle Strauss, Senior Fashion Editor at Lucky magazine. The teams will have to create 3 piece convertible look based on one of Lucky's most popular features, "I Want, I Need..." It's when you take a piece of clothing from your closet and are able to use it in different ways and different looks.

The teams spin wheels to determine their wants and needs. Since Merle won the last challenge, she gets to pick first without even spinning. She goes with a high society cocktail party (want) and a company party (need). Louanna spins the wheel and ends up with movie premiere (want) and baby shower luncheon (need). Kathy gets a hot nightclub opening (want) and a company party (need). Eric is last to spin and gets high society cocktail party (want) and religious service (need).

The designers face a little bit of trouble because, at the last challenge, it was the last time that they were able to purchase fabrics.   They can only work with what they already have and Merle used her best stuff for the last challenge. Kathy debates breaking out certain fabrics that she may want to hold on, should she advance in the competition to the finale. Louanna and Eric get into an argument over her idea to design a shirt with a train on the back of it. He doesn't think it's in great taste... and I couldn't agree more!

Kathy and Emil come up with a convertible vest and skirt that can go from company party to super hot nightclub outfit. Eric and Galina chose a blue and brown fabric that is absolutely to die for! They put two of my favorite colors together and I expect it to wow on the runway. Meanwhile, it really doesn't seem that Louanna and Eric are on the same page or have a solid plan as to what they're going to do. All the designers, though, seem jealous of what Merle and Thai are able to do together. Can you blame them!?

Kara Saun, from season 1 of Project Runway (yay!), is the special guest for today's walkthrough with Dean and Dan. Kara tells Louanna that it needs to be more obvious that she's creating separate looks and Kathy is advised that she needs to do more with her look. Kara seems concerned with Merle's color choices, while Dean and Dan feel that Eric's looks may not be cohesive enough.

Following the runway show, Eric receives positive feedback about his party outfit but not so much for his coat. Lisa Kline says it looks more like a robe and she ain't kiddin'. The panels doesn't feel that Louanna's outfit is appropriate for a movie premiere - that it's more day than night, and even could be taken for pajamas. Dean and Dan were a little disappointed that Merle didn't take her transition further and she immediately gets defensive.  The judges love Kathy's hip and fresh look but could have done without the red lining in the jacket, saying it wouldn't sell because of that.

Eric and Kathy are the top two designers and Kathy is named the winner.  That leaves Merle and Louanna in the bottom two but based on Merle's track record this season, she's given a second chance.  Louanna and Jim will be leaving the competition, just before the finale.
