Patrick McDonald from Launch My Line Season 1

by Chandra Clewley

Patrick McDonald was eliminated on last night’s episode of Launch My Line after the judges questioned his taste level, asking “is this red hot or red light district?” Patrick is a fashion writer in New York City who has written for Paper and Next magazines among many others. He is currently getting ready for fashion week and thinking about writing a book about style and fashion.

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: Why decide to go on Launch My Line?

A. Patrick: I thought it would be an interesting experience, a learning experience, a great opportunity and why not?

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: Define Dandy.

A. Patrick: Dandy is someone that appreciates beauty and lives for beauty.

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: What was it like working with fashion expert Roberto De Villacis?

A. Patrick: It was interesting. We are definitely oil and water, we are 2 different people. He has his way of doing things and I have my way of doing things. I actually had never met a person like him before. He is quite unique. I think that the viewers thought that I was going to be the unique character, but even though I look like one, I am actually kind of level headed in my actions. I felt that this is my partner, this is who I have to work with, so I made it work.

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: Did you designs always come out the way you wanted them to?

A. Patrick: I am going to be totally honest with you, No. I am not putting any fault on anyone but I needed to learn different things that Roberto couldn’t teach me, but he could teach me other things. We had a limited time. From my head, to the paper to execution to finished garment, there was definitely room for improvement.

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: How did you feel about Merle’s criticism of your designs being too sexual?

A. Patrick: She is entitled to her own opinion, but doesn’t sex sell? A few of them, like the green outfit, and this last one were a little too bare for me. Roberto kept cutting and cutting. The last one, if you go out in New York or Hollywood the girls dress just like that.

Q. Chandra, Reality Wanted: How did you get along with the other cast mates?

A. Patrick: I got along with everyone very well. I actually made friends that I will know for a long time from the show. A lot of them were really lovely people.

Q.  Chandra, Reality Wanted: How did you feel about the judging?

A. Patrick: I liked to listen to what they had to say. I really respected Stefani Greenfield, she had great criticism, and she had great things to say. Lisa Kline, I think had a more narrow perspective coming from a retailer background, not a wide overall view and only what she would buy for her store.  Dean and Dan are great.  I have run into them before because we run in the same circles and I liked what they had to say.
