Dave Ball from Survivor: Samoa

On last night’s episode of Survivor: Samoa, there were two tribal councils and two Galu members were sent out of the game.  The Foa Foa four have managed to knock out six Galu players in a row without losing anyone from their side.  First, Dave was sent to the jury and Monica soon followed.  Today, Dave spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about his experiences on the show and what will get him to write down someone’s name to win a million dollars.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out for Survivor this season?
A. Dave: The need to kill!  No, just kidding.  I wanted the opportunity to compete mentally and physically as well as have an emotional and spiritual experience.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The Galu tribe was very tight in the beginning.  Who were you close to?
A. Dave: Brett, Laura, and Kelly.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted:
John said, in this interview with RealityWanted, that you two worked well together but then he started to question your decisions.  Why did things break down between you two?
A. Dave: John doesn’t know how to play the game.  He constantly wanted to knock out Monica.  That’s like saying, “A group of butterflies are out to attack me!”  Why are you scared?   I spent 25% of my time out there trying to calm him down.  He was playing crazy and he was fixated on this all girl thing.  It became clear that that wasn’t going to happen.  Eric bought into it, unfortunately, and that’s why he left the game.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When Foa Foa came into the merge, they should’ve been four dead men walking.  Was Russell the one who was able to turn it around for them?  Who do you give credit to?
A. Dave: If it wasn’t for me, they’d all be gone.  I burned Eric and I had planned to do so days before the merge.  It wasn’t Natalie.  We had already decided that’s what we were doing when she came into the tent and said, “Eric’s talking crazy…”

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you feel like if you hadn’t burned Eric, you’d still be in the game right now?
A. Dave: Of course!  I planned to get Foa Foa out first.  Eric was listening to John.  They wanted to keep Shambo and I said, “You’re gonna get burned.”  It’s tough.  There’s an unlimited number of variables in this game.  Never underestimate what starvation will do to you.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted:
How bad was the hunger and thirst out there?  When did it take its toll on you?
A. Dave: It took its toll physically on me from the beginning.  It messes with your head in several ways.  You’re thinking, “I gotta find food,” and then when you do, “Do I share it with other people?”  It affects your cognitive ability because you’re missing important nutrients.  I was the best fed person out there because I went on every reward challenge but it was still definitely tough.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Going into tribal council, did you know you were going home?
A. Dave: I knew going in.  It wasn’t a blindside at all.  In fact, Mick shook my hand and said, “Good game,” before we left.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Should the Foa Foa four stick together or look to Brett to make a move?
A. Dave: Well, Brett has no power.  I gave Jaison a good sales pitch.  I can’t believe he wouldn’t flip.  I said, “You spent $500 on an advantage in an immunity challenge.  You must be feeling like the low man on the Foa pole.”  The speech was far prettier.  It was genius.  I’m a good talker but he didn’t wanna listen to me so it’s like, okay, whatever.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted:
When you’re sitting on the jury in that final tribal council, are you voting based on personal feelings or who really deserves to win a million dollars?
A. Dave: I pride myself on not voting based on personal feelings.  When I was voted out, my instinct was to vote for who played the best game.  There are several different types of gameplay.  There are a whole lotta variables.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted:
The finale is right around the corner.  Are you excited to see everyone again?
A. Dave: So excited, I’m twitching.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Where do you hope to go from here?
A. Dave: I’d like to start an adventure games company, do adventure travel.  We’d have challenges similar to Survivor and possibly have a service component thrown in.  Eco-tourism is hot these days.  I would love that!
