The Biggest Loser 8: Episode 12 Recap

The Biggest Loser 8

by David McAlpine

Last week on The Biggest Loser, it was everyone versus Amanda in the house as the Orange/Pink alliance had quickly fallen to the wayside, leaving her as the lone member left in the game. Amanda, however, put up big enough numbers to keep her safe, sending Allen home in the elimination room, instead.

The last taped episode of the season starts with the classic montage of how each contestant has progressed over their months of time on the ranch. As much as you expect them to chance, it's pretty remarkable what they actually manage to accomplish.

After all this time, the contestants are finally told to return home for a while and see how they can implement what they've learned at the ranch and put it into practice. Danny asks his wife to renew her vows with him, while Rudy, Liz and Amanda visit with their families and reminisce about how much trouble they were in such a short time ago.

Danny and Amanda both explain that they've been battling weight gain since children and they want to, once and for all, put an end to it. Amanda talks to her best friend about her fears about being home and the pressure that comes with it.

Rudy starts to open up about his sister's leukemia fight when he was a child and talks about how his father woke him up to tell him she had passed away. At this point, I don't know how many more sad stories I can take, because there haven't been that many happy (or non-emotional) moments this episode.

Liz seems determined to keep the weight off because she wants to live longer and see her children and grandchildren grow as old as possible. Her husband is proud of her plan and asks her to fall in love with him again.

The next morning, each of the four remaining contestants get a surprise from Bob and Jillian on their doorstep--a personalized video with a pep talk that could get anyone motivated. Later in the day, the trainers call them, telling them they'll be completing the newest Biggest Loser tradition: a marathon.

The trainers show up (again) the next day; Bob to Rudy and Amanda and Jillian to Liz and Danny. They give some valuable tips on how to train as well as some final words of encouragement, then it's off to the start line for the final four.

Before beginning the marathon, Alison tells the contestants that, by finishing the arc,e they get to donate $10,000 to the charity of their choice. Everyone struggles with the race (I mean, who wouldn't? It's a marathon!), but all four of them complete the entire distance--Rudy first, Amanda second, then Liz and Danny together in third. After several tears and more words of encouragement, it's time for the weigh-in.

This week, the top two losers percentage-wise will be given an automatic pass to the live season finale. The third and fourth place people in terms of weight loss will face the public vote, where only one will be in the finals. Results are as follows:

Danny: -59 (-20.49%)
Rudy: -43 (-14.53%)
Amanda: -16 (-8.60%)
Liz: -16 (-8.08%)

The three finalists will be revealed on next week's episode of The Biggest Loser, so tune in next Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC!
