Dancing With the Stars Season 9: And the Winner Is...

Dancing With the Stars

Last night on Dancing With the Stars, the final three celebrities, Mya, Donny Osmond and Kelly Osbourne danced for their lives in a last attempt to come out on top on tonight's season finale.

Now, the moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. Who will take the mirror ball trophy? It's all only two hours and several dances away, no big deal. The stars from the beginning of the season start flooding the stage--as do horrible memories of watching them dance. Thinking back on this season, it was one of the less spectacular ones, but still an enjoyable one to watch.

First up performing is Whitney Houston--yet another surprisingly large name for the show. I don't know if anyone saw the AMAs on Sunday, but that was a pretty bad performance, and it doesn't get much better on Dancing With the Stars, that's for sure. But her backup dancers look great!

Then, Ashley Hamilton gets inducted into the Losers' Club, a.k.a. the celebrity kicked off first every season. I really almost forgot he was even on this show. Then we flash back to the greatest moments of the season: Tom almost dropping Cheryl, Aaron crying…lots of good times.

A bunch of celebrities get to dance again, but they're all overly gimmicky and just serve to show that they were more performers than they ever were dancers. Then, Natalie and Alec reprise one of their dances, once again showing that she had some natural talent, unlike several people cast for this season. Then, Melissa and Mark bust out this salsa that she never got to perform and she gets a standing ovation. Where was that when you needed it, Melissa?! Where?

Now to the final three, who each get the chance to reprise one of their old dances for a last shot at more judges' points.

Kelly and Louis reprise their Viennese Waltz from the first week, where Kelly showed that she was a force to be reckoned with during this competition. The judges reflect on how much she's grown and that she's definitely been the underdog the entire season. Regardless, they remark on how much she's come out of her shell and how comfortable she looked on the dance floor now compared to at the beginning.

Mya and Dmitry are second and they choose their jive. Obviously, Mya has the chops to do it even better the second time around, and even faster than before. It was awesome to see her improve on something that I'm not sure a lot of people thought could have been improved on. The judges loved it and compared her to a much more timid Mya at the beginning of the competition.

Donny and Kym are last and they re-do their Argentine tango, something that gave them a little bit of trouble earlier. This time around, they absolutely nail it, and the judges eat it up. It seemed as if Donny finally dropped out of performance mode and into dance mode, and he was completely, 100 percent on point.

Their decision: Kelly gets 26 points, Mya gets 28 and Donny gets 30. Even Donny looks a little shocked, but he definitely deserved it.

But the gimmicks don't stop there. Louis and Chelsie do a fruity dance to "Puppy Love" because of how young they are as a couple, then Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin have a Super Bowl champion dance-off. I knew ABC would have a lot of filler tonight, but I didn't think it would be this ridiculous.

And it still doesn't stop! Aaron and Karina come back to do their Muppet Show dance, then Joanna Krupa, Cloris Leachman, Jerry Springer and Steve Wozniak compete in a competition mambo. Wow, wonder who wins this one? Clearly Joanna, but it was still funny to watch.

Whitney Houston is back to sing one of her old hits, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," which she did significantly better than her first song. I think she's a little redeemed, but not too much, because I really can't get the AMAs out of my head.

Now, to the results. First, the third place couple: Kelly and Louis. I wasn't really shocked by this, purely because they had the lowest judges' score by enough of a margin to make it near impossible to catch up with votes. And, let's be honest, Kelly Osbourne versus Mya and Donny Osmond…I'm going to guess she has the smallest fanbase.

So it's down to the final two. After several pauses and lots of anticipation, the winner of this season of Dancing With the Stars is…

Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson!

Several people on stage look quite surprised, but Mya is a gracious loser who says she still had the time of her life. End the show with Donny and Kym hoisting the trophy above their heads. Hey, at least he can say he did better than Marie, right?
