Survivor: Samoa contestant Laura Morett

Last night, on Survivor: Samoa, the remaining Galu members initially thought they had it made.  If Russell didn’t win immunity, they’d simply vote him out… but they didn’t count on two of their members jumping ship.  When the votes came down to a tie between Laura and Natalie, John flipped during the re-vote and sent Laura packing.  Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about her experiences on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out for Survivor this season?
A. Laura: I’m a huge fan of Survivor but, actually, I was originally trying out for The Amazing Race.  I didn’t make it and the producers called me and said they had a spot on Survivor that they wanted me to try out for.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you do any preparation, mentally or physically, before heading into the game?
A. Laura: My experience was different than almost everyone else on the show.  I got the call that I made the show 3 weeks before we left.  I had torn my Achilles tendon playing softball and I was supposed to have surgery.  My preparation for Survivor was physical therapy.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Who were your closest friends on Galu and would you have remained loyal to them to the end, if you had stayed?
A. Laura: I connected right away with Monica, Kelly, and Brett.  You didn’t see this but Brett and I had the tightest alliance out there.  He would’ve given me the immunity necklace, on last night’s episode, if he had won it.  We never trusted John, but we were all close out there.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you know right away at the merge that Shambo had flipped and was it stupid of Mick and Jaison to basically tell Monica that she was working with Foa Foa?
A. Laura: Yeah, we knew.  We didn’t even consider her.  The guys would always say, “Don’t tell Shambo.  She doesn’t need to know.”  We never counted her vote.  It was stupid of Mick and Jaison but it also gave us the opportunity to let Foa Foa think that we would vote out John.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Is Russell the luckiest Survivor on the planet?  How frustrating is it to watch him?
A. Laura: I agree and it is frustrating to watch for so many reasons.  It would’ve been huge to get rid of Russell and we were unlucky in that he kept finding the idols.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You said, in your exit interview last night, that you wanted to see someone from purple win the million.  Does that include Shambo?
A. Laura: Shambo is not purple, she’s yellow.  I want anybody from purple to win the million.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you’re voting for the person who will win a million dollars, do you look strictly at gameplay or do personal feelings get involved?
A. Laura: No, a lot of things come into play.  You can’t separate out your personal feelings.  I want the person whose name I write down to be a good person.  We’re handing them a check for a million dollars, that’s a pretty big gift.  However, on the competitive side, I want to know that you beat me and you kicked my butt in challenges.  I love competition and I love to go one on one.  I want to know how the person beat me.  I want them to tell me.  I can handle it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Are you satisfied with your Survivor experience?  What’s next for you?
A. Laura: It was a very satisfying experience!  I’m 40 years old and to be out there with young people and go toe to toe and get voted out because I’m the biggest threat… I mean, we’ve got a rocket scientist, a doctor, two attorneys, and the biggest threat is the gramma?  I’ll take that.  Right now, I’m attending school at Liberty University, majoring in Theology.  I want to be a speaker at women’s events and tell them their value.  I want to tell them, “You can do it!”  My faith is very important to me.  If one door closes, another one opens.  Hey, my door closed in Survivor and it’s so ok with me.
