Survivor: Samoa

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on Survivor: Samoa, the men on the Galu tribe decide to pull in Shambo so that the numbers will be in their favor.  The only thing that would mess that up is if the girls try to align with her as well but I’m pretty sure hell has a better chance of freezing over first.  Erik comes up with the idea for the men to make Shambo the new tribe leader so that she feels flattered and like she can put her trust in the men.

Okay, I’m still trying to figure out why anybody actually listens to their leader AND why the leader thinks that being the leader actually means something.  Is it just me???

In the reward challenge, 13 pairs of matching survival items are scattered in a field and covered.  One at a time, team members walk out and uncover two items at a time.  If it matches, they can keep it but they forfeit the point they receive.  The winning tribe gets to take a boat ride and enjoy a delicious lunch.  Galu scores the first match, uncovering a fire making kit, and keeps it.  They score three points before Foa Foa even scores one.  Galu ends up winning reward and Shambo decides that Laura will be heading to Foa Foa.

Back at the camp, Russell immediately jumps at the chance to align with Laura.  (Of course he does.)  She also connects with Natalie, which is perfect since Russell is already aligned with her.  If he can pull off a cross tribe secret alliance that actually works, I will bow down to him.

For tonight’s immunity challenge, players will row out and retrieve fish shaped puzzle pieces and bring them back until all the pieces have been collected.  The first tribe to put together their puzzle wins.  Simple as that.  For a minute, it looked like Foa Foa might run away with this one after taking an early lead but… as always in Survivor… it comes down to the puzzle.  Galu wins immunity and Foa Foa is seriously down in numbers.

Russell immediately turns his focus on getting Jaison voted out, because he gave up in the challenge.  He just stood there and stared at the puzzle.  When you’re already hurting as a tribe and you’re in need of a big win, you can’t afford for somebody to just mentally check out!  Heading into tribal council, it’s going to come down to Jaison, Natalie, and Liz.

At tribal, Jeff tells Foa Foa that they’re the one of the worst tribes he’s ever seen when it comes to performing in challenges.  Ouch.  Sad but true.  Russell seems confident that Foa Foa can do big things when the merge comes and Liz says that she trusts everyone on her tribe completely.  Meanwhile, Jaison looks like Droopy Dog over there, with his head down and hardly participating until Jeff brings him into the conversation.

Here are the votes: Jaison.  Liz.  Liz.  Liz.  With three votes, Liz is blindsided and voted out of the game.  Smart move?  We’ll see next week when the tribes merge.  Can’t wait!
