The Real Housewives of Atlanta-AJ & Kandi's Engagement Party

“Baby Momma and Daddy Drama”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Episode 12 begins with Sheree and Kim planning Kandi’s engagement party. Kandi had to cancel the party after A.J’s cousins were in a car accident, and the girls are planning a surprise party. They meet at FAB, the restaurant where the “wig pull” incident happened, not so long ago! Kim asks Sheree if  they “are past that” and Sheree concedes that “life is short”.

NeNe is meeting with her co-author Denene Millner. Along with her Uncle Mel, the three are going to Athens, GA to show Denene around NeNe’s hometown. The group first meets at NeNe’s mother’s house. The house is a columned brick colonial in which her mother hardly resided. It turns out that NeNe’s mom never raised her, and instead spent most of her time in New York City with her 2nd husband, spending occasional summers in Athens. The family still owns her mothers summer home, but it has sat vacant for 19 years. NeNe, who was raised by her Aunt Nell, says she is glad she doesn’t live in the countryside of Athens any longer, with “all those damned trees!”

Tania and Sheree are going through Sheree’s first shipment of samples that have arrived from New York City for her fashion show for She by Sheree, which is happening in four days! The clothes fit Sheree great, as they have been tailored for her body (6 on the bottom, 4 on top). Sheree calls Dwight, and Tania is leery of his credentials as an event planner for runway shows.

Upon A.J.’s encouragement, Kandi, her mother Joyce and he go to a Christian family counselor. Joyce is adamant that A.J. is going to take all of Kandi’s money with his responsibility for 6 children with 4 different women.  She does not feel he can take care of Riley and Kandi. A.J. just wants Joyce’s approval. The counselor takes the high road and tells Joyce that she will have to “resolve to depend on the fact that you have raised her and you did a good job. You need to trust her.”

Kim changes her wig for Kandi’s surprise engagement party and lets Derek J., her wig stylist on to the fact that she changes her hair piece everyday. Her wigs are $430 each, and at 30 pieces a month, she is spending almost $13,000 a month on wigs. Derek brings an $800 hair piece that looks a lot better and much less shiny than her normal wigs. Derek’s wigs look much more real and less synthetic. Derek asks Kim if she takes them off when she sleeps and she admits that when she is feeling “frisky” with Big Papa, she might take it off but for the most part she sleeps in it, which is why she discards them daily. (Smoky, greasy, feathers from the pillows et. al.)

Kandi and A.J.’s engagement party goes pretty well, except for Kandi’s mom, Joyce, who has a hard time keeping her opinions to herself! She calls it “mother’s intuition.” She has been fighting their engagement tooth and nail. Of course, we as viewers all know the tragic fate of the couple so it seems like a waste of energy from our point since the wedding will never happen. Joyce concedes to say something during a group toast, and grudgingly says “I hope everything works out for Kandi…and we’ll just wait and see…”

Sheree and Dwight finally meet up to go over last minute details of the fashion show, and Dwight doesn’t think Sheree is close to being ready. As a matter of fact, he says she is a “year behind” and "there is a lot of work to be done, she has NO clue!" Take it with a grain of salt though...we all know Dwight has a tendency to over-exaggerate.

After they visit her Aunt Nell, NeNe and her Uncle Mel are driving, when Mel gets a phone call from Alan Pope, NeNe’s alleged biological father. He agrees to meet NeNe face to face, and when she does meet him, he gives little information. NeNe can tell he is nervous.  He is uncomfortable with Uncle Mel there. Uncle Mel is Curtis’s brother, the man NeNe always thought was her father, and was her mother’s ex-husband. Because of the fact that Alan and NeNe’s mother most likely had an affair, he seems to think it is disrespectful to speak of it in front of Mel. Alan and Curtis were once best friends. NeNe thinks Alan resembles her 19 year old son Bryson. Alan says that NeNe looks like Harriet, her mother. She resolves to speak and meet with him again.

The Finale next week should prove interesting with the culmination of the hate-triangle between NeNe, Kandi and Kim coming to a head, and Sheree’s fashion show happening whether Sheree is ready or not!!!

Catch the action on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Finale next Thursday at 10 p.m. E/P on Bravo!!!
