Kara America’s Next Top Model Cycle 13

by Gina Scarpa

On last night’s episode of America’s Next Top Model, the girls first competed in a go see challenge then headed to a high flying photo shoot at a martial arts center.  The height, the harness, and the weapons they were given to use became overwhelming for some of the models, including Kara.  The judges liked her strong face but felt disappointed that she couldn’t deliver a strong photo.  She was eliminated from the competition and today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about her experiences on the show

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Have you wanted to model since you were a little girl?
A. Kara: I’ve definitely always wanted to model.  I used to do a lot of acting work but once I started in sixth grade, I started focusing more on modeling.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you decide to try out this season?  Did you go to an open casting call?
A. Kara: I’ve always watched the show but I’m only 5’7 so I felt too short to be a part of it.  I heard they were casting 5’7 and under this cycle so I knew I needed to go for it.  I went to an open casting call in Chicago.  I was living in Costa Rica at the time and I flew to Chicago for it.  There were so many people there and it took such a long time.  I met a lot of interesting people in line.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What went through your mind when you found out that you had made it onto Top Model?
A. Kara: I couldn’t believe it!  It’s so strange.  I’ve seen every episode so many times and now I was going to be on it.  Even now, I can’t believe it.  Meeting Tyra for the first time with Jay was so crazy.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Usually, the go see challenge comes much later in the season so were you prepared when Tyra threw it at you on last night’s episode?
A. Kara: We didn’t really figure it out that we were going on go sees.  I was feeling like I wish that I was wearing something different and was more prepared but at least I had heels in my bag.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Tyra loves these difficult photo shoots that involve being up in the air or harnesses or props… what was your reaction to the shoot last night?
A. Kara: We were all really surprised.  After we got Tyra Mail, we thought it was going to be lingerie.  We show up and it’s this martial arts place.  It was a really difficult photo shoot.  There were a lot of elements.  We’re on wires, we have these harnesses, we have weapons that I didn’t know what to do with… I was really overwhelmed.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How were you feeling going into panel?
A. Kara: I definitely really felt like it was my time to go.  I had prepared myself but I guess that didn’t really help.  I was pretty upset.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you stay in touch with anyone from the show?
A. Kara: I talk to a lot of the girls.  I talk to Jen all the time.  I’m constantly calling and texting her and I try to get her advice about life problems.  She’s like my big sister.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did being on America’s Next Top Model help motivate you to continue to pursue modeling, despite the fact that you’re 5’7?
A. Kara: I still want to try and see what I can do.  I definitely know it’s going to be hard.  Before the show, I wasn’t really getting a lot of modeling work but now, I’m going to try to focus my energy on it a lot more.
