Survivor: Samoa

by Gina Scarpa

On tonight’s episode of Survivor: Samoa, Foa Foa deals with the aftermath of voting Ben out.  Russell admits to the tribe that he had no choice but to write his name down.  In his interview, Jaison calls coming on Survivor the worst decision of his life.  Pretty harsh words.

You know there’s another tribe in this game, right?  Sometimes, I forget, too.  Over at Galu, Erik pulls Shambo aside and tries to get info about the immunity idol.  Since once is hidden at Foa Foa, wouldn’t it make sense that one is hidden at their own camp, too?  She gives up the knowledge that she has, feeling she has nothing to lose.  I don’t know about that.  Let's not get too comfy.

Tree mail arrives at each camp.  The leaders of each tribe must pick two people to go on a mission, which may or may not result in them bringing food back with them.  At Foa Foa, Mick takes Russell and Natalie and at Galu, Russell S. takes Shambo and Dave.  They arrive at the beach for the challenge but Jeff isn’t there.  All that’s there is a cage with chickens in it and a pirate’s chest, but no directions.  Russell (the one that actually plays this game) heads for the items and everyone follows suit.  In the chest are purple and yellow balls with instructions for a challenge.

Where the hell is Jeff?!

Tonight’s reward challenge is basically like bocce and my Italian roots are diggin’ it.  Towards the end of the competition, it looks like the tribes are neck and neck.  Dave throws the last ball for Galu and it lands LITERALLY next to the pole.  Galu wins yet again, while Foa Foa will have to head back to camp emptyhanded.

Thanks to Shambo, Erik has found the idol.  Shambo just got screwed.  As if that’s not bad enough, she accidentally let a chicken get out of the cage.  Remember that, earlier in the season, she also lost some of the fishing gear.  The target on her back just keeps getting bigger and bigger.  She better pray that Galu keeps winning.  The one glimmer of hope she has is that some of her tribemates also wouldn’t mind seeing Yasmin go home.

At the immunity challenge, Jeff Probst is a sight for sore eyes!  Galu sits out Shambo, Laura, Dave, and Russell while the rest compete in an obstacle course.  They must race through the case with blocks in hand, then stack them up high when the reach a mat.  In total, they’ll have to stack two towers.  Galu takes an early lead (of course) but Foa Foa works hard to catch up.  Russell shimmying across that rope bridge for Foa Foa was pretty funny.  Who knew he was so agile?

At the second mat, it’s neck and neck and Jaison’s height ends up being the thing that helps Foa Foa win their first immunity challenge.  With Heidi literally standing on him, she stacks the last block and the tower stands for five seconds.  Foa Foa FINALLY wins!

Back at Galu, Yasmin and Shambo aren’t the only targets for elimination.  After a pitiful performance in the challenge, Monica’s head is on the chopping block as well.

As we head into tribal council, the good news of the night is: it looks like Shambo is safe.  This night will come down to whether or not the tribe is going to go with their leader or against him.  I mean, to be fair, "leader" is sort of a title only... let's not act like Russell or Mick have control over what the players in this game are ultimately going to do.

Yasmin is called out for not doing enough work at camp and she fires back, saying that she has done anything that has been asked of her.  She turns the focus on Monica, saying that she didn't do enough in the challenge.  Monica defends herself, saying that she thought she did a great job.  Jeff feels that this could come down camp life, challenge performances, or someone's individual strategy to further themself in the game.

The votes are in and, with six votes (which is enough), Yasmin is sent home.
