Chet Cannon from Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins

On a Real World/Road Rules challenge, new players should expect one thing – to be targeted first by the veterans.  Such was the case with Chet, who was sent into The Ruins against Wes in the first week.  Though he put up a good fight, Chet was unable to beat Wes and became the first male competitor eliminated from the game.  Today, he spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview, dishing on all the dirt that went down in Thailand.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you were on The Real World: Brooklyn, did you put some thought into continuing your relationship with MTV and doing a challege?
A. Chet: Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.  I have a great relationship with those involved at MTV.  They look out for me, but my involvement with the challenge was based heavily on the location.  Phuket is quite an amazing place and I couldn’t pass that one up.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Usually, new players are targeted first in challenges.  Did you have a strategy to try to avoid that?
A. Chet: No.  I knew I was getting called in, either the first or second time around, so I really didn’t feel compelled to strategize.  I guess all you can really do is try and be “likable.”  Then, should you choose to do another challenge, people will want to keep you around, simply because you’re “good company.”

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you have anybody in the game that you were aligned with?
A. Chet: My team… sort of.  At the end of the day, EVERYBODY wants a payout, so they (your team) will throw you in before they need to.  It’s self preservation.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What did you make of Wes's strategy, to sabotage the challenges for his team?
A. Chet: Wes is a shady guy.  That’s an irrefutable fact.  I was glad he was willing to help us, assuming it put money in our accounts.  His plan, at least for the first challenge, failed.  So, the name Wes will live on in infamy.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Would you want your team to win because Wes helped or would you rather win on your own?
A. Chet: In a challenge setting, winning is winning.  Let me put it that way.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: There are always lots of hookups on the challenges.  Did you see any action?
A. Chet: No… haha.  I’m allergic to STD’s.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: The Brooklyn cast was pretty normal, in comparison to other Real World casts.  What did you make of all the craziness that takes place on the challenge?
A. Chet: That’s for sure.  To be honest, the challenge was extremely entertaining because of the debauchery and disreputable behavior.  I felt that was lacking during the Brooklyn season.  It’s not my nature to carouse like Tonya or solicit myself so willingly, like Kelly Anne, but I enjoy watching them do it.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: It looked like you were doing well in The Ruins against Wes.  What went wrong?
A. Chet: If I were to do it again, I would have taken 5 minutes simply to conceptualize an effective solution for the ladder.  There were tricks to it.  Based upon the near, zero-degree incline to the ladder rungs, I should have used a reverse grab as to pull the weight towards the bamboo.  Failing to do so caused the bamboo to roll off.  You need to stay calm.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Are you glad that you went to Thailand, even though your time there was short lived?
A. Chet: Absolutely.  A free trip to Thailand and making money on top….can’t really argue with that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Any other gossip you care to dish on?
A. Chet: Based on what I’ve seen and heard, Kelly Anne will sleep with anyone.  So if you meet her, enjoy the ride!  Double bag it though.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: While you were on The Real World, we saw that you were interested in hosting.  Are you still pursuing that?  Anything coming up in your future that's fun and exciting?
A. Chet: I’ve gotten great response from some people in LA upon viewing my reel, so I’m headed out there soon for some meetings.  I’m in discussions for some TV projects at the moment, which pleases me greatly.

The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins airs Wednesdays at 10pm ET on MTV.
