Survivor: Samoa

by Gina Scarpa

Tonight, on Survivor: Samoa, Foa Foa struggles to get a fire going.  Ben seems to be the only person around camp who knows what to do but no one listened to him.  After calling them a bunch of pansies (behind their backs, of course), he gets that fire started and saves the day.  You don’t have to like him, Foa Foa, but you don’t you dare vote him out just yet.  You need him, you pansies!  Russell doesn’t want to see him go just yet so he tells him that Ashley was gunning for him to put a target on her back.

When Galu and Foa Foa get their tree mail, they’re happy to receive some dry clothes – they’re bathing suits but they’re dry so they’ll take them.  Sounds like a water challenge is approaching and my instincts are correct.  Players will race out into the water to retrieve a crate but face members of the opposing tribe on their way, who will try to stop them.  Once they have all their crates, they must stack them so that there are no repeating colors on any side.  The winning tribe receives immunity and comfort items for their reward.  Foa Foa sits out Russell while Galu sits out Shambo, Yasmin, Brett, and Erik.

Ok, it sucks enough to get tackled in life but who wants to get tackled and dragged through ocean water?  Not me, that’s for sure.  Galu takes a small lead early on but, before you know it, both tribes are working on stacking their crates.  Foa Foa thinks they have everything lined up correctly but one side was off.  Galu ends up figuring out the puzzle and wins immunity and reward.  Foa Foa needs to do something and quick because they’re getting decimated!

Russell, the leader of Galu, is faced with (what seemed like) a tough decision.  They could have more items to help them survive at camp or they could take comfort.  Without blinking an eye, Russell picks comfort.  He feels like if the women are happy, the whole tribe is happy.  Well, I know for a fact I never want to see a pissed off Yasmin again.  And for the record, the whole tribe isn’t happy.  Most of them would’ve preferred the sensible camp items.

Russell also sends Shambo to Foa Foa to hang out and observe tribal council.  She feels much more welcome with the opposing tribe, but Mick isn’t so quick to trust her.  She opens her note, which contains clues about the hidden idol, and she decides to search for it.  I mean, who wouldn’t?

It seems like Ashley is the main target for tonight’s vote but that worries Mick, who is loyal to Jaison.  Jaison is aligned with Ashley so it is a little bit of a tough situation.  In order to gain Mick’s trust, Russell shows him the idol.  The dude needs to stop flashing that thing around camp!  When Russell informs Jaison of the plan, he is in complete disagreement and calls it “ridiculous”.  Now, Russell’s in a tight spot because if wants to advance in this game, he’s going to have play by the rules of the rest of the tribe at least some of the time.

At tribal, Jaison tells Jeff that he would trade Shambo for Ben any day because she brings a positive force.  Ben bluntly says that he’ll be voting out Ashley tonight because she doesn’t do anything around camp or in challenges.  When Ben and Jaison start to go at it,

Russell sits close by with a smirk on his face.  He just loves when other people draw attention to themselves.  Jaison has made this entire thing about race… and that’s a pretty touchy subject.  To be fair, Ben never made a comment about Jaison, Yasmin, or anyone else being black but he HAS made offensive comments.

After some tense moments, it’s time to vote.  Ashley receives a vote, then Ben receives four and that’s enough to get him sent home from the game.
