America's Next Top Model Cycle 13

by Michelle Spigner

On tonight’s episode of America’s Next Top Model, Tyra works the girls out when she directs and shoots them during their photo shoot.

First, the girls pay a visit to make-up artist Sam Fine, who stresses the importance of knowing how to do a fast face with minimal products. The girls each get a personalized make-up lesson to learn how to work different features on their face.

The girls say goodbye to Sam Fine and arrive at a Wal-Mart. Nigel Barker and his wife, model and Cover Girl spokesperson Crissy Barker greet them. They explain that their challenge is all about enhancing their natural beauty, in a flash. In the Cover Girl Mad Dash Challenge they will be working with Cover Girl products to create the perfect look that will get them a job at a go see. They will have to run through the store change their clothes, grab a pair of shoes, do their make-up, grab their picture and rush to the finish line. But just to make it harder there are fewer supplies than girls, so two girls will be eliminated at each station. The first three that get to the finish line will be judged and the winner will be in a photo shoot for the Cover Girl page of Walmart.com and a receive $1,000 Wal-mart gift card.

When the Barkers call go, the girls take off running into the store throwing their bags and purses to the side as they rush through the doors. It seems Erin likes to play dirty and begins pushing people out of the way and grabbing their arms to pull them back. The girls get to the clothes first then go off to the shoes, but the last two don’t get a pair and are out. They go on to make-up but again the last two don’t get any supplies and are out.

The remaining four girls Sundai, Ashley, Erin and Bianca take off for the last leg of the race to find and grab their picture from the end aisle display. But the girls keep running past the display without seeing it. They finally find it and Erin grabs both her and Ashley’s picture and takes off running with hers and she throws Ashley’s down on the ground. Ashley is left in the dust with her crumpled picture on the floor as the remaining three cross the finish line. The Barkers judge the girls’ looks, and Sundai is named the winner for the natural beauty she has brought out in her face.

The next day, on their way to their photo shoot Ashley is still bothered that Erin threw her photo aside and pushed her out of the way during the race. She attacks Erin, saying that she should apologize because she took the race too far. Erin feels she was just being competitive and upset to the point of tears. She finally breaks down and apologizes.

The girls arrive at the photo studio and see a woman wrapped up from head to toe in a floral scarf. The girls unwrap the figure to discover it is Tyra. She will be directing the photo shoot this week and it is all about beauty shots. The girls will be wearing scarves on their head and as their wardrobe to focus the shoot on the soft natural beauty of their faces.

Brittany blows Tyra away and even though her scarf covers her face Tyra is amazed with how fierce her face appears through the sheer fabric. Rae walks on to the set next with an angelic presence and really takes the shoot to another level with her stunning shots. Tyra loves Erin, and says that she “just knows how to model,” with her body and her face. But she doesn’t like how she didn’t let her personality shine through on set. Nicole also shows off some really great poses but just had hands that were too claw-like.

Some of the girls had less luck on their shoot. Bianca shone last week when she finally brought out her soft side, but struggled to show it again. Tyra loves Kara’s strong face, but doesn’t like how she didn’t work her features. Ashley proves to be the most difficult to work with on set. Tyra keeps changing her outfit and scarf to try and make things work for her. But it wasn’t the outfit that wasn’t working on Ashley; it was Ashley who wasn’t working the outfit.

Tyra and Jay Alexander chose Brittany as the winner of the shoot and best picture of the week, which means she is immune from elimination this week.

The next day the girls meet with the judges for elimination. Joining the panel this week is guest judge, China Chow, a petite model herself at just 5’ 3”.

After Brittany is called. The judges evaluate the other girls. They call Jennifer next then Rae, Nicole, Laura, Sundai and Kara. Ashley and Bianca are in the bottom two. Tyra is shocked that Bianca is in the bottom because in person she has such a stunning and soft face, but she looks hard in pictures. Tyra admitted that it wasn’t Ashley’s wardrobe that it made it difficult to shoot her it was Ashley. Tyra found her to be the hardest to shoot out of all of the girls.

In the end, Bianca was sent home, she just couldn’t break through her hard shell.
