America's Next Top Model Cycle 13 Rachel

by Gina Scarpa

Last night, on America’s Next Top Model, the contestants were faced with an interview challenge.  Usually, there is a winner who receives a prize after a challenge but here, the was a loser too and it came with a price. The model that did the worst in the interviews with judge Nigel Barker and President of Wilhelmina Models, Sean Patterson, would be eliminated right then and there.  In her interview, Rachel claimed to love musical theater but then couldn’t name or sing a single song for Sean.  She ended up being sent home for it and today, spoke to RealityWanted about her experiences on the show and her goal for the future.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Have modeling been a dream of yours for a long time?
A. Rachel: I can’t even tell you how old I was when I decided I wanted to be a model.  The dream has been there for as long as I can remember!

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Had you thought about trying out for some time and how did you audition for the show this cycle?
A. Rachel: It was weird, actually.  Every year, I would look on the CW website, even when I wasn’t 18 yet, to see when the casting would take place.  I always said I’d try out, even though I wasn’t over 5’7.  When I turned 18, the casting said they would take people who were 5’7 and under so it was perfect.  I missed the audition in San Francisco so my parents drove me all the way to L.A. and stayed with me so that I could try out.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: On Top Model, there’s always going to be drama.  How did you avoid it and stay out of it?
A. Rachel: With drama… I’m a very chill person.  It was very different for me to be around it.  It was very crazy.  When drama would break out in the house, me and some of the other girls would go somewhere else and talk about other things.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When you found out that someone would be eliminated after the interviews on this week’s episode, what was your immediate reaction?
A. Rachel: I think you could see it in my face.  I had a horrible feeling.  Everyone freaked out because it was so unexpected.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you feel that you did in that interview?
A. Rachel: Well, obviously you saw the singing part when I couldn’t think of a song.  I could not think of anything!  I drew a blank.  I thought that would I said would help but I was really on the fence about how I did.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Are you upset that you were eliminated in a challenge, instead of after a photo shoot?
A. Rachel: I’m actually happy that I went home the way I did.  It would’ve been nice to go after a photo shoot, just because it’s an elimination and it’s expected but I’m glad that I didn’t go home because of a bad picture.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are you taking away from the show?  What did you learn?
A. Rachel: I learned a lot in the short amount of time that I was there.  I learned how to speak and interact better with people.  I learned how to handle rejection because I’ve never really had to handle that and I’m going to have to take on a lot of that if I’m going to survive in the modeling world.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What is your modeling goal?
A. Rachel: My top, top goal is to make it into the fashion world because of my height.  I definitely want to model.  I'm moving to L.A. on October 1st and I'm going to be hustling while I still have the publicity from the show.  A lot of short girls out there are trying to make it!

America’s Next Top Model airs Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on the CW network.
