America's Got Talent 4

by  Arthur Perkins

Well, AGT4 fans, we are finally at the end of the road starting in Seattle, Houston,
Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami, through Las Vegas and ending in Hollywood.
The winner of this competition get to headline a Las Vegas show in late October plus
gets $1,000,000. There are some very good acts left in this competition and there
are some excellent acts. I will give you my take on which acts make which category.
America votes right now to decide who wins.

There was commentary by the judges tonight, but so much of it was pap and B.S. that
I am only going to give you snippets of what the judges said because if the judges
were judged for their performance tonight David and Sharon as usual would flunk and
Piers would only be graded a C for commonplace. Except to illustrate just how bad it
can get (but nothing different than the usual from the judges), I am going to ignore
the judges with only a few exceptions. Numerous times, acts were told they were
worthy of a Las Vegas show. They were not told, however, that they were worthy of
winning AGT4, which is on a different level.

First up was Voices of Glory. They gave a fine performance. Was it enough to beat
some of the other singing groups? In a word, No. But I rate them #5.

Next was Hairo Torres, who is one of several who should not have been here. He
regressed with a performance similar to his first performance in the secondary
rounds. it looked all old-hat if you had seen any of his performances. He knew from
the minimal live audience support at the end of this performance that the gamble he
had taken with type type of performance had failed. I would award him 10th place in
the finals. I have no idea how the reporting of voting will be, so it is likely that
nobody outside of NBC/the producers will know where he really places.

Lawrence Beamen is third and he chooses to follow Piers' muse by singing a Barry
White song. Piers tells him that he has the potential to perform like Barry White
but he is missing the emotion and verve. I would agree with that. Lawrence came into
the finals in my estimation likely to finish #2, but this performance only merited
about #4.

Barbara Padilla was scintillating. She sang "O Mio Babbino Caro" by Puccini. it was
a nearly flawless performance and should win AGT4 for her. She looked totally
beautiful and sang beautifully. Her family will be proud of her.

Fab 5 is another act that should not have been here; they should have been replaced
by either Ishaara or Footworkingz, of both of those acts. It was same old, same old.
I am tired of their clogging and want to send them home in the #9 place.

Texas Tenors is an act I have really liked throughout and they sang "My Way" by
Sinatra their way. Their start was a little weak due to solo singing but once they
got rolling they blended perfectly and performed very close to top-notch. I think
they will be #3 in this competition. Piers said it was terrific but cheesy. Sharon
agreed, saying that she loves cheese and she loves the Texas Tenors.

Drew Stevyns in my opinion deserved to be there because of his excellent performance
in the semifinals. He sang his heart out tonight, but his singing style does not
have universal appeal (I don't like it, for example). He will finish high in the
bottom half, say at #6.

Grandma Lee started a lame Cleopatra-style entrance where she wasted time and only
got in the line "cut the crap" (which was repetitive and not worthy). She then
continued with jokes about her children and ex-husband that rated a mild chuckle
only from the live audience. Then she shifted into high gear by telling Piers that
he had let her down by not answering her emails or taking her phone calls, which had
resulted in her shifted her allegiance to - Simon Cowell. That one brought down the
house but it was too late. She blew her chance at the big time. I can see a #7
placement.

Kevin Skinner stayed true to himself. In my opinion he is the most overrated (by the
voters) performer in AGT4. He sang consistently flat once again tonight. Piers has a
good ear and commented long after I had come to that conclusion listening live.
Piers said that he needs professional voice training, which is very true. Sharon
said that he could win it anyway because being out of tune does not matter is you
have heart. I say RUBBISH to that. If you can't sing in  tune then hopefully you
cannot win AGT4. I put Kevin at #8.

Recycled Percussion was outstanding tonight. They had one pointless trick, to finish
with water raining on the drums of the drummers. The rest of it was incredibly
entertaining and energetic. Piers said they were "brilliant, creative and dynamic."
Sharon said "you really belong in Vegas". David said "you guys belong in Vegas." I
rate them just behind Barbara Padilla at #2.

So, there you have it, my rating of where the various acts will finish is NBC
permits us to know that:

1. Barbara Padilla
2. Recycled Percussion
3. Texas Tenors
4. Lawrence Beamen
5. Voices of Glory
6. Drew Stevyns
7. Grandma Lee
8. Kevin Skinner
9. Fab 5
10. Hariro Torres

Nick Cannon announced that the AGT4 finals results show will be Wednesday at 8pm for
one hour.
