Amanda Davenport from Hells Kitchen

Last night, on Hell’s Kitchen, the women were the losing dinner service team.  Tennille was named the best of the worst and she nominated Suzanne and Sabrina for elimination.  Chef Ramsay, who has already done this once before this season, decided to grab his own nominee out of the crowd and asked Amanda to come and face him.  Feeling that she was the weakest member on the team, he quickly asked her to take off her jacket and leave Hell’s Kitchen.  Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview about her experiences on the show.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What was your cooking experience prior to trying out for Hell’s Kitchen?
A. Amanda: I cooked part time in a Mexican restaurant back when I was in high school and then in 2005, I decided to change my career and do it full time.  I went to culinary school and went from there.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What made you want to try out for the show?
A. Amanda: I had just quit my job that I was at and there was an open call for Hell’s Kitchen.  I wasn’t even really thinking I would get on that and I wasn’t looking at any other culinary shows either.  For some reason, there wasn’t a long time and next thing I know, I’m there.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Is there any point to the dinner service winner even nominating people if Chef Ramsay is just going to do whatever he wants, when it comes time to eliminate someone?
A. Amanda: It’s frustrating!  Lots of times, he’ll go with the two people that are nominated.  He’ll pick one of them.  For some reason in this season, it’s like, surprise!  It happened with me and Jim already.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Were you surprised when he picked you out of the crowd on last night’s episode?
A. Amanda: I’ve done stupid things like cut something too thin or had a small order.  When he said my name, I was like, “Oh great, this is gonna be the third time I’m up here and two of which he picked me out of the team.”  I’m done, whatever.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What does the red team need to do in order to work as a more cohesive unit?
A. Amanda: Tell Suzanne to shut the hell up.  From the beginning, all she does is talk and talk.  Her mouth just takes away from her cooking.  If you watch closely, you will see her move around the kitchen but she’s not doing anything!  Chef Ramsay probably can’t tell because all he can do is hear her so that takes away from the other non things that she’s doing.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Rock has been ranking the chefs each week on RealityWanted and he seems high or Ariel and Kevin.  How do you feel about them?
A. Amanda: Ariel is obviously the one that I felt most comfortable with, cooking with, and I trusted her.  She’s probably the best of all the females.  Kevin is probably the best of the men.  Well, not probably the best.  He is the best.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Was competing on Hell’s Kitchen like you thought it would be?
A. Amanda: It was nothing like I thought it would be!  It’s definitely no joke!  Nobody realizes the amount of pressure and you get pushed to the extreme.  You get no sleep and you hardly get to eat.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: When Chef Ramsay was reading off the tickets during last night’s dinner service, I said to myself, “Who reads orders like that?!”  Does he gets in the way of the chefs being able to pull off a successful dinner service?
A. Amanda: I mean, he’s said it himself.  He puts everybody through the extreme, through extreme pressure, high intensity… no chef reads off tickets like that.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What are you hoping to take away from this and what is in the future for you?
A. Amanda: I’m hoping to work on a couple of new projects.  I’m starting a new job in a couple days with some friends of mine.  I’m hoping to take away perfection.
