More To Love

by Lindsay Strouse

This week on More To Love, Luke is kicking it old school. That’s right, he’s taking his women back to prom…and this time making sure they all have dates.

After the usual morning consisting of eggs, bacon and Kristian’s incessant fawning over Luke, they hear Luke’s voice calling from downstairs. The girls rush downstairs to find a pile of presents wrapped in shiny silver wrapping paper. Luke surprises them all by asking the group to attend prom with him. Keeping up with his expensive—I mean generous—style, he purchased twelve exquisite gowns for the remaining contestants.

In preparation for the big night, the women are awarded a complete spa treatment including hair, nails, facial and makeup. Talk about a good deal! After each girl makes their final alterations on their appearance, they exit the dressing rooms completely different women. I’m not just talking appearances, either. Every girl beamed with a new air of confidence and glowing smiles.

Once all the ladies enter onto the dance floor to meet Luke, the fun begins. I love Luke just as much as the next girl, but I have to be honest—he could work on his dance moves. It looked like a combination of “The Chicken Dance” and the “Hocus Pocus.” Not that it mattered to the girls, of course. They all eagerly joined in and Luke assisted Melissa in her very first dance.

Just as the party really starts going, Host Emme comes out with her own surprise for Luke. The doors open to reveal two of Luke’s best friends from college, here to help name his prom queen. The two friends start mingling among the women and acquire a liking towards Danielle. She talks nonstop, making sure Heather can’t get a word in edgewise.

As the night winds down, the time comes to announce Luke’s prom queen. In addition to receiving the coveted crown and sash, the winner is also guaranteed a one-on-one date with Luke. It’s no surprise when Luke’s buddies choose Danielle as the winner. After getting crowned, Danielle joins Luke for a romantic dance in the center of the floor, leaving the others green with envy.

Turns out the girls aren’t the only ones who don’t like Danielle. Luke announces to the viewers that he was surprised when he heard Dani’s name called for she “isn’t very high up on his list.” His opinion doesn’t change much on their date to Harborside in Newport Beach. Danielle talks the entire way up in the limo ride to the restaurant, leaving no room for dialogue with Luke. Things go from bad to worse when Danielle finds out the main entrée on the menu—calamari. Surprise, surprise, she doesn’t eat seafood.

I’m all for a girl eating a hearty meal in front of her guy, but Danielle takes it over the line. When the dessert tray came out, I actually had to close my eyes in fear of gagging. Not only did she finish off basically the entire dessert tray, she was STILL talking the complete time (despite having pieces of chocolate and nuts falling out of her mouth). By this time, Luke is certain that his initial opinion of Danielle is correct. He dutifully finishes off the date with a night boat ride, hoping for a moment or two of quiet. Sorry buddy, no such luck.

The next day, the girls find a note for Heather hanging from a giant ring. To make up for her seasickness on the last date, Luke arranges a one-on-one date for the two to go horseback riding at Trust Ranch. They share a lovely date and make the connection that Heather was desperately hoping for.

Once all the dates are finished, Luke meets the women (all dressed to impress, I might add) for another mixer. Lauren once again wastes no time in asserting herself that she is “Luke’s woman”, which surprisingly is a turn on for Luke. Bonnie surprises Luke with a present hiding in her bosom. After fishing for the prize, Luke opens up a note to find an adorable doodle of himself. Kristian then takes Luke aside to tell him her true feelings, that she is starting to genuinely fall for him. When he leaves, her fear of being sent home is extremely apparent.

Once elimination begins, Emme comes out to announce that four girls are going home. I guess Luke doesn’t want to waste any time in finding his perfect soul mate. The girls return their rings back to the bowl, followed by some heartwarming words from Luke. The room is tense as Luke begins the process of redistributing rings. Looks like horses are the way to a man’s heart, because Luke calls Heather first. The remaining seven rings are then handed out to Mandy, Anna, Lauren, Tali, Melissa, Malissa and Kristian. This leaves us saying goodbye to Bonnie, Christina, Amanda and whadayaknow, Danielle.

Amanda leaves the show with true grace and dignity, claiming that she shouldn’t have been sent home because she is prettier and smaller than the other girls. Someone missed the moral of More To Love.
