More To Love

by Lindsay Strouse

Tonight, FOX gives viewers a handful to take in (no pun intended) on the premiere episode of More To Love.

We are first introduced to Luke Conley, the oh-so-loveable-teddy bear, weighing in at over 300 lbs. He is ready to meet the perfect full-figured woman (providing she knows how to cook his favorite meal, steak and potatoes) and takes position outside the house.

Within the first fifteen minutes, all 20 women emerge from limos in gorgeous gowns, followed by tearful confessions explaining how their weight prevents them from meeting Prince Charming.   We are introduced to women ranging from size 10 to 32, holding occupations as diverse as a college student to a model to a rocket scientist (talk about intimidating).

Once all the girls finish their meet and greet and settle down for a glass of wine, they are given their first surprise of the night—a diamond ring. And I’m not talking 25 cent cereal box rings. This guy is giving away 20 beautiful, not to mention expensive, diamond rings on the first day?! Someone get me on this show, I think I love him already.

Now that everyone has their diamond ring securely on their finger, it’s time to actually get to know the girls. Wait a minute, isn’t that supposed to go the other way around?  These women are no joke when the opportunity comes to find Mr. Right. One girl announces she quit her job to come out here and fall in love while another claims she already loves this guy! Woah, talk about moving fast.

Things get hot and heavy from the start between Luke and plus-size model, Anna. They’re smooching on the couch while another girl patiently waits to get a word in edgewise. Better luck next time, girlfriend.  25 year-old Danielle isn’t one to sit on the sidelines, either. Looking for an opportunity to stand out from the rest, she cannon-balls into the pool — full length gown and all. This doesn’t sit too well with some of the other girls, in particular, makeup artist, Bonnie. I feel a catfight coming on.   The second kiss of the night goes to L.A. waitress Malissa. Nearly fluent in Spanish, she educates our main man with her own spicy “beso”.  Love and free Spanish lessons, this show gets better and better!.

After brief introductions… cuddling… hand holding… romantic first kisses… the time comes for an elimination. And not just one girl; he’s sending five girls packing tonight. Everyone gathers to place their rings back in a bowl while Luke contemplates his decision. This is anything but easy for the women, for the ring has already come to symbolize hope, promise, love and acceptance—something they all feel is missing from their lives.

When Luke reenters, the room goes quiet with anticipation. After a few seconds of reality TV’s classic heart-pounding “Who’s it gonna be?” pause, Luke announces his first pick. I guess the kiss cinched the deal, because Anna is lucky girl number one.   After all of the other rings are handed out, it looks like we’re saying goodbye to Michelle, Natalia, Sandy, Shari and Mandy. I hope he kept a receipt for those rings!

Tune in next week to catch an all new episode of More To Love, Tuesday nights at 9pm on FOX.
