Houska Castle -  Blatce, Czech Republic

Even Comic Con couldn’t keep me away from this episode….all right, maybe I TiVo’d it. San Diego is not the Czech Republic, but it does have it’s own ghostly path…be sure to check out “Old Town” San Diego when you visit So Cal. If you are already here, take the Blue Line Trolley to Old Town...it “dead ends” there.  Ghost Tours begin at 9pmish on most nights, but I digress.

The Castle built, as early at the 13 century, may have been solely built to encompass the “Gates of Hell.”  The Chapel associated to the castle was built around a deep, dark hole in the ground where many accounts of evil have been experienced.  Prisoners were granted freedom if they could stand being lowered into the whole. One prisoner didn’t make it far without begging to be removed, and once removed, aged decades and died quickly in a insane asylum.  The Nazi’s apparently had their own hand in the goings on in the castle and rumors have it that they were carrying on various scientific experiments.  If you know about the history of experimentation by the Nazi’s, then you need no further explanation of the horrors that may have occurred at this spot.  Black figures or shadows are the most common visual experience had by the caretakers of the castle, but voices and a ghostly woman are all part of the daily routine.  Some of the caretakers have brought their dogs by the castle and they reported the dogs going a bit crazy, as if they sensed evil spirits.  Animals, especially dogs, are said to have a keen sense of the paranormal.

Lead investigator, Robb Demarest, and Joe Chin were teased by a flickering light in an area where one of the many reported dark figures have been seen.  The team brought in one of the caretakers’ dog to see if the dog could point them in any direction of a spiritual presence.  The dogs seemed uneasy but didn’t seem to have their ghost hunting hat on that night.  Barry and Brandy Green spent a good amount of time in the area that once encompassed the deep hole in the ground, or possibly, the “Gates of Hell.”  Hopefully their equipment picked up on the audible experiences they heard.  Investigators Ashley Godwin and Dustin Pari were very spooked out during one part of their investigation in the castles’ attic and Ashley needed to seek “comfort” with Dustin at one point when a sound of something moving across the floor was heard, not only by them, but the viewer as well.  The bigger question though is “was Ashley getting a little too close?”  I’m sure Mrs. Pari would like that answer.  Dustin asked Barry to bring up the “full spectrum” camera to see if they could catch the activity and during this time the camera decided to start taking pictures on it’s own.  The question is whether or not the spirits were vain enough to pose.  Joe and Ashley spent some time in the “devils basement” fully equipped with a creepy thrown called “Satan’s Chair” and all the surroundings of a dungeon.  Both were constantly bombarded with voices, strange noises, and items moving.

Personal experiences were rampant with the team and Robb and Dustin felt they would have a lot to show the client.  The biggest evidence they had was when Dustin and Ashley were in the Attic and received a response back with a noise after Dustin threw a rock.  After this point a voice recorded saying in Czech “Come On”, sort of antagonizing the members of the group.  Robb felt they had enough evidence from their personal experiences and what was recorded to call the castle haunted and, just as a viewer, I had no complaints.

The Original “Ghost Hunters” is back on August 19th for a whole new season.
