Randi Evans from So You Think You Can Dance Season 5

by Gina Scarpa

This week, on So You Think You Can Dance, the dancers were given new partners and Randi and Kupono became a new couple.  The pair performed a Paso Doble that didn't go over too well with the judges.  Judge Mary Murphy criticized the lack of chemistry while Nigel Lythgoe felt it lacked the power it needed in order to succeed.  On last night's live results show, Randi and Kupono received the lowest number of votes and were eliminated from the competition.  Today, Randi spoke to reporters in a conference call.  Read on to find out what she told RealityWanted about the upcoming tour, as well as her thoughts on Evan,

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Which number, that you and Evan performed, do you hope most makes the tour?
A. Randi: I would love to do the number that we did the first week, our jazz number.  I loved that one!  I also loved our Mia Michaels dance, our butt dance.  I'd really like to do that one again.

Q. What was it about Evan that made the two of you click?
A. Randi: It's almost like the "it" factor.  I don't know what it was with Evan.  We just hit it off right at the beginning.  We only have four and a half hour, just a couple of days, to get the dance together.  I feel like I was used to working with Evan.  When we had to switch partners, I feel like we didn't have enough time.  Kupono is a great guy and we really put ourselves out there.  Unfortunately, it just wasn't the best number of the night.

Q. What was your most memorable moment?
A. Randi: I think one of them was when they announced that I made the show.  I had been trying for a few years so when they told me when I had made it, it was unforgettable.  There have been many moments, though, that have been this unforgettable.

Q. What do you have to stay to your fans?
A. Randi: I can't say thank you enough.  I can't believe the support I've gotten!

Q. When they announced that you were in the bottom, you were so together and had a smile on your face.  What was going through your head?
A. Randi: When they told me I had to do my solo, I wasn't that surprised.  The numbers the previous night had been so great!  The other girls that I was competing against... look at them!  They're so amazing.  Someone had to go and I feel like I had a really good run so it wasn't really sad.  It was more content.  I gave it all I had and now I'm looking forward to the tour.

Q. You got a lot of flack for the wig in this week's routine.  Was it difficult to perform with?
A. Randi: It was.  It wasn't just a wig, it was a whole persona that I had to embody.  It was definitely hard.  It wasn't my choice to wear the wig.  They wanted me to wear.  When I got crap for it, I was like, "It wasn't me that chose it!"  I basically did the best with what I was given.

Q. How has the support been from your family back home?
A. Randi: They're so incredible!  I really have the most amazing family.  They would call me all somber and I'd be like, "Hey!  What's up?!"  I get to go see them and rest my body.  I'm trying to be positive about what happened yesterday.  They've been nothing but suppportive.  They're really, really great people.

Q. What else do you like besides dancing?
A. Randi: I am a huge outdoors junkie!  I live really close to the mountains and the lake.  I love do anything outdoors: boating with my family, camping... yeah, I'm definitely more of a rough, go camping kind of a girl - not so much with the camping every day!

Q. What advice do you have for other dancers?
A. Randi: Perseverence pays off more than you know.  Never give up and know that if you want it bad enough, you'll get it.  If you want it, fight for it.
