The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 2

The second season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta begins on Thursday July 30th, 10 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Lisa Wu Hartwell, Kim Zolciak, NeNe Leakes, and Sheree Whifield are returning, and Kandi Burruss will be replacing DeShawn Snow. Lisa Wu Hartwell and Kandi Burruss have their music industry backgrounds in common and they are friends off set. Here is what they had to say about the upcoming season:

Q. CNN.com: Kandi did you feel any intimidation coming into this season?

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Not really, I just try to be cool and learn people’s personalities and be myself, I just wanted to not go too hard, when I think things I say it, I know that doesn’t come off too good. Lisa made it very easy because she is so nice, and her husband is great, they made it so fun.

Q. CNN.com: Lisa, do you think there is a bit of a double standard with table flipping in The Real Housewives of New Jersey, vs. the way The Real Housewives of Atlanta was handled last season?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Absolutely, there will always be a double standard. We take the good with the bad, Atlanta is always considered “drama”. I don’t know if I am right but that’s my opinion. “Ghetto” is a frame of mind, people relate that to a color. Our show is just entertaining and will be more engaging this season.

Q. CNN.com: Is there anything you regret?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I would have taken the words back to Kim about flipping her over the couch, but the wounds were fresh. We don’t have the liberty to take that back with the cameras on. I am just being me and I’m human too.

Q. Life& Style: Which show do you girls prefer, The Real Housewives of New Jersey or The Real Housewives of New York?

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: New Jersey: I tried, but I couldn’t get in to New York.

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I have friends on New York, I watch that. New Jersey kept me entertained, they were genuine and being who they are.

Q. Life& Style: What are your thoughts on Danielle Staub from The Real Housewives of New Jersey?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: All the blogs and media, do they get it right? Probably not. If it is true, I think she has moved beyond that.

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: She is in her 40’s now, it was so long ago, she has probably grown from that, personally I think she is funny!

Q. OK Magazine: Kelly Bensimon joined the cast of New York (in the 2nd season), can we expect the same dynamic from Kandi?

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I had my moment with one of the cast mates, but I try to get along for the most part. NeNe and my personalities clash sometimes.

Q.OK Magazine: Any surprises?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta:
Last season you see me all business, this season there is a sensitive side. I am the weeping willow this season, I am vulnerable.

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I was a fan last year, this year I did a lot of crying too. There was always something going on that I was getting emotional about. I hate when I cry in front of people, now its millions of people! I hate that! I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and people get to see the real reals.

Q. Chandra Clewley, RealityWanted.com: Both of you have music industry backgrounds, how seriously do you think Kim takes her music career?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Last season, at first, we all just thought it was a joke; it was hard to take seriously. She went to a voice coach and things took a different turn when Kandi started helping her out (this season) and working with her.

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Kim was broken down, everyone was dogging on her. Her self esteem has shot up now, and I am helping her out.

Q. Chandra Clewley, RealityWanted.com: Kandi, on this season it looks like you and NeNe get into it. Do you both let your children watch the show?

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: My daughter watched the first season, and we have a really good relationship. The only thing that bothers me is when I talk about her father on the show. I try not to talk about him.

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I have two older boys and I can’t stop them from watching the show. I have apologized for my comment about Kim, so I don’t have any regrets.

Q. Who are the two of you closest to on the show?

A. Lisa Wu Hartwell, The Real Housewives of Atlanta:
I talk to Nene often, we are not best friends or anything, but we talk. I talk to Kandi. And Sheree is cool.

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Lisa and I have a lot in common. I talk to Kim a lot. And Sheree loves to eat, just like me, so I invite her over.

Q. Was Kim unfairly treated?

A. Kandi Burruss, The Real Housewives of Atlanta: I think Kim is cool; she hasn’t done anything to me. The other girls keep saying “yet” when I say that. As time goes on, I feel like they are a little hard on her. That’s my personal opinion. She is funny and I think she is a good mother. She doesn’t care what people think…
