American Idol 8

by Gina Scarpa

Much as I loved the final three contestants on American Idol, for different reasons, there is nothing worse than a predictable season of a reality show.  Fortunately, for fans of the show, it’s been pretty tough to figure out how the votes are going to play out each week.  We’ve had our share of surprises on the journey to the finale, from an early exit from Alexis Grace to the judges’ decision to save Matt Giraud.  The judges wanted us to believe that Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert had this thing in the bag weeks ago but last night proved that they’re not the ones calling the shots!

The show kicked off with an appearance from Ben Stiller who, after making a few jokes about Seacrest, promoted his new movie, Night At The Museum 2 which opens Memorial Day weekend.  Alicia Keys was also on hand to talk about giving to charities and a child from Rwanda, who has been raising money for HIV prevention, sings a song called “I Am The World’s Greatest.”

It was a long time before any results were delivered.  Seacrest kept parading the contestants onto the stage, showing clips from their hometown visits, then telling them they’ll have to wait to find out what America decided.  The agony!  Former Idol winner Jordin Sparks returned to her former home and performs along with one of the members of One Republic.  That was followed by a performance by Katy Perry, compete with a cape that had Adam’s name on it and some technical difficulties.

COME ON ALREADY!!!

At long last, we finally get to find out who will be singing in next week’s finale.  Kris Allen is the first one to make it to the top two and I couldn’t be happier.  He can thank his rendition of Kanye’s “Heartless” for that!  Ryan reveals that… Adam will be joining him which means Danny has been eliminated from the competition.  He makes a gracious exit after performing “You Are So Beautiful To Me.”  Danny will most definitely be missed.

Now, on to the finale!!!

Be sure to watch American Idol, as the final two face off, Tuesday night at 8pm ET on FOX.

When Adam did Michael Jackson's Black and White song, I knew he had something different than the others. It was obvious to me then that he would be this years star, even if he doesn't take first place, he will go on to sell more records in my opinion.

Well if this wasn't a nail-biter, I don't know what is!!! I'm not going to talk about the guest performances because quite frankly, I don't really give a damn! With regard to the Top 3 Homecoming visits, both Danny and Kris's segments made me cry!! Watching Danny riding in the parade, putting his head in his hands crying was quite moving. I can't imagine what is must be like to have that much admiration and attention thrust upon you. It has be like living in a dream. The love that Kris's father has for him is just so beautiful. I was literally in tears! Adam was so sweet with the kids. It shows me that these three individuals are quite special. So when Ryan announced that Kris was the first to make the finals, I almost died!! Not that I don't think he doesn't deserve to be in the finals because I absolutely fell he does. Then it was between Adam and Danny. I was thinking OMG!! Adam may be going home!! While I didn't want to see Danny go home, I really wanted Adam to be in the finals. I think he has been consistent throughout this competition and without a doubt earned his spot in the finals. This was the first season that I didn't want to see any of the Top 3 go home. I am a fan of all three and truly enjoyed each of them for different reasons. Did Danny deserve to go home? Well I guess it depends on who you talk to. If Danny had made it, I wouldn't have a problem with it. Just goes to show how close these Top 3 were. Next week will be the big Adam/Kris showdown. I don't think Adam has this competition wrapped up like some people have been saying. Kris has given some unbelievable performances this year and I, for one, am a fan. So who would make the better American Idol? I don't think it matters because I feel both would be good for different reasons. I'm sure people will be debating this all week! If I did vote (I never have), I would be true to myself and vote for whomever gives the best performances next week. Yes, I have been huge fan of Adam's all week. But if Kris gives gives us performances such as "Heartless" or my favorite, "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone", he may just pull a rabbit out of his hat.
