Kristin Steede from The Biggest Loser Couples

by David McAlpine and Gina Scarpa

This week, on The Biggest Loser, Kristin was one pound heavier at the weigh-in and was stunned.  It was not the first time she had gained weight in a week but she has always been a person who plays the game honestly and with heart.  Up against Helen in the elimination room, Kristin earned more votes for being a “threat” and was sent home to continue her weight loss journey.  Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview, sharing her thoughts on her experiences on and off The Biggest Loser campus.

Q. David, RealityWanted: Your mom told us that you'd tried out for the show before. How many times did you try out before you were cast?
A. Kristin: My mother and I actually attended an open casting call in Milwaukee, WI for season 5. We made it pretty far in the casting processes but obviously never made it on that season. We were then contacted about season 6 and eventually made it on season 7!

Q. David, RealityWanted: It seemed like you got very close to everyone on the ranch. Who would you say you got the closest to and why?
A. Kristin: I had a very close relationship with a lot of the cast but I would say I got the closest to Filipe & Sione. Filipe and I were on the ranch together since day one. When my mother and Sione left for 30 days, Filipe and I really grew close. Filipe was always there to talk to and he always had such inspirational things to say. Sione really helped me on an exercise level. The first time I had ever jogged around the ranch without stopping it was due to Sione's help and coaching. He also provided a lot of support and encouragement during last chance workouts. I have no doubt he will make a wonderful trainer some day.

Q. David, RealityWanted: What was the biggest challenge you faced while on the Biggest Loser campus?
A. Kristin: I would say my biggest challenge I faced while on the Biggest Loser Campus was getting accustomed to the workouts.

Q. David, RealityWanted: How did you handle the drama that went on in the house? Do you think it affected you in any way?
A. Kristin: I handled the drama in the house by just being myself. I feel honesty helps take away some of the drama. Early on we realized that the best way to minimize the drama of this game is to play the game on the scale and deal with the decisions after weight in was completed.

Q. David, RealityWanted: What was the most important lesson you learned while on the ranch?
A. Kristin: I learned so much while on the ranch but I would say one of the most important things that I learned is that you need to have a strong vision of what you want your life to look like. For me, having that vision kept me focused on what I was working towards and it helped me stay motivated.

Q. David, RealityWanted: During your time on the show, you dealt with a couple setbacks, including some weeks of weight gain. How did you recover from those weeks and keep going?
A. Kristin: The weeks of weight gain actually helped me a lot! I learned a lot about my self and my body due to those weeks. In the big picture I learned that the number on the scale is only a number and I cannot let that number, whether its plus or minus, discourage me from my ultimate goals.

Q. David, RealityWanted: There was a lot of talk about you being a huge threat to everyone in the game. Why do you think people perceived you as a "threat"?
A. Kristin: I was not the fastest, I was not the strongest and my weight loss was very inconsistent. I feel I was perceived as a "threat" just based on the amount of weight I still had to lose. Ultimately, this is a game based on percentages. With my starting weight, my body frame, and the fact that I am a female it was perceived that I should be able to lose 50%+ of my body weight which makes me a bigger threat in the long run. Now actually being able to do that is a whole different story!

Q. David, RealityWanted: Looking back on the latest episode, how do you feel towards Mike and Ron now that you've seen how the

voting truly panned out?
A. Kristin:  I was hurt at first because Ron, Mike and myself had been so close all season long. What was said to my face and what was said behind my back were two different things. Ultimately, I have no hard feelings towards Ron and Mike. I knew that when I agreed to be on the show that there was a game that needed to be played. I was eliminated because I was the one who fell below the yellow line. I gave them the opportunity to eliminate me and they took advantage of that. I have no one to blame but myself.   To be honest, because my glass is always half full, I love the lesson I learned from being eliminated. Winning or Losing the title of the Biggest Loser will not and does not define who I am. My elimination taught me that I could work so hard for something and still not get it and it's what I do after this that counts the most.  I never went on the show with the hopes of winning $250,000. I am not saying I wouldn't have liked to have won the money but that was never my main objective. I just wanted to lose weight and be healthy, therefore I feel like I have won!

Q. David, RealityWanted: How have you worked towards accomplishing your goal of getting under 200 pounds at home?
A. Kristin:  Being at home is tough! This lifestyle takes a lot of hard work, determination, focus and commitment. I am happy to say that I am getting closer to my goal every day.
