Americas Next Top Model

By Danae Young

This week on America’s Next Top Model, the girls meet with Paulina who tells them they are going to be doing stage acting. The girls split into groups of two and are given a phrase and type of emotion in which to say the phrase. The emotions acted out included bossy, pitiful, shocked, threatening, arrogant, and ecstatic. Most of the girls did mediocre but Tahlia stood out especially. She was told to be ecstatic and must have heard Paulina wrong because she depicted the complete opposite. Paulina even tried to get her to jump up and down and told her it was like trying to get her to jog in mud.

Next the girls were given a sheet of paper with lines on it that they needed to memorize. Above each of the lines was a different type of emotion the girls were to portray when they said that line. After the girls practiced their lines, it was time for the challenge. The girls were brought into a theater where they were introduced to the celebrity guest, Clay Aiken. The girls got super excited about it but for some reason all I could think about was that if I was one of them I probably would’ve been a tad bit disappointed. Nonetheless, each of the girls put their game faces on and act out the lines with Clay the best they can. Most of the girls were a little lost but London has somewhat of an acting background in the family so obviously she won the challenge. Unfortunately, she has gained some weight and couldn’t fit into the jeans she won.

The following day the girls get to meet the winner of Cycle 11, McKey. They find out that instead of doing a photo shoot they will be shooting their first commercial for CoverGirl. The girls were split into two groups: group one consisted of Celia, Teyona, Aminat, and Allison, and group two was made up of Tahlia, Fo, Natalie, and London. Allison still hasn’t learned how to control her facial expressions very well which made her feel a lack of confidence after the commercial. Celia definitely did the best of her group. Both Teyona and Aminat kind of struggled to pull through a good commercial. Natalie and Fo both gave average performances. London seemed too much like a door salesman, and Tahlia can’t seem to bring the same spirit to the set as the other girls.

When it came time for elimination, most of the girls didn’t seem to get the best critiques from the judges. Celia was called first and was told she has a very natural talent and is great at creating a character. London’s commercial was very sloppy and her body language was terrible. Natalie was too stiff and needs to work on her flirty-ness. Aminat needs to improve her speech and Teyona squints a lot. Fo sounded like she was chewing gum the entire commercial. Allison had a very predictable critique saying that her commercial was punishment and her facial expressions need a lot of work still. As for Tahlia, her commercial did nothing for her and her lack of confidence was very clearly shown. She was ultimately sent home where she can hopefully gain some confidence.
