There is something verrrry suspicious happening on American Idol this season. I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor after last week’s surprise elimination of Alexis Grace, who looked like she could have gone all the way to Top 5. Tonight, I was sure I had the bottom three figured out: Scott MacIntyre, Michael Sarver, and Megan Corkrey. Once again, I’m two for three in my picks. Somehow, Megan is safe and in her place… is… Matt Giraud. WHAT?! Get out of town, America. Not only should Matt Giraud not be in the bottom this week, but he shouldn’t be in the bottom ever until he makes it to Top 3.
When American Idol wants to parade past winners out onto their stage, they should just stick with Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Tonight, we were treated to the musical stylings of Ruban Studdard. Ruben who now? I know. I felt the same way. As if one irrelevant musical artist wasn’t enough for you, Joss Stone performed as well. Thankfully, there were music legends on hand to sing a few songs, like Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder. Sit down, Ruben.
Back to the bottom three. Matt is the first to be named into the bottom this week and it’s clear that everyone is shocked. Michael ends up right there with him and Simon coldly tells them that they’re there because America doesn’t like them. I’m still trying to figure out why Matt is there at all, but that’s probably because I can’t even think due to my shock that somehow, Megan and Scott are not standing with Michael. Scott is the last one to be named into the bottom three for this week and Ryan immediately says that it’s time to send someone back to safety. I assumed it would be Matt but that would make too much sense. Ryan sends Scott back instead.
It’s time for the results. 36 million votes were cast and Michael Sarver received the least. He’ll have to sing for his life now. There’s no way the judges are saving him and in the end, Simon bluntly tells him he’s headed home.
America, I’m not sure what you’re doing. Please stop putting contestants like Alexis Grace and Matt Giraud in the bottom three. You’re making me nervous, dammit.
American Idol returns next Tuesday at 8pm ET on FOX.
