Americas Next Top Model

by Danae Young

This week, on America’s Next Top Model, Sandra’s photo from last week was the first picture called at elimination so her picture was put up on the wall downstairs in the house for everyone to see, yuck! As if she needs any more of an ego trip. Toccara from cycle 3 stopped in to visit the girls at their Manhattan house to have a sleepover and talk about how important personality is as a model. She mentioned that none of the girls really stand out and I completely agree with her. The girls really need to start letting go a little more.

The girls were taken to the Marquee where they met Benny Ninja to learn how to use music to motivate their poses. Tahlia was unable to show any confidence in the poses while Kortnie wouldn't take the lesson very seriously.

The following day, the models had to use what they learned from Benny Ninja in a model pose-off dressed in The Blond’s fashion line. The audience was made up of a group of drag queens. They were the judges and they were told to clap and cheer for the poses they enjoyed and boo if they disliked the poses. Talk about intimidating! In the first heat of five, Celia won, and in the second heat, Natalie won. The final round was between Celia and Natalie and Celia totally owned it. Natalie couldn’t keep her balance in those heels for the life of her and Celia just kept hitting pose after pose like it was nothing. Celia easily won the competition.

Back at the house, Tahlia starts complaining again about how much she wants to go home and doesn’t think this competition is for her. However, the next day at the photo shoot she did an amazing job and decided maybe the competition wasn’t so bad after all. Natalie said it perfectly when she was in the confession room talking about how Tahlia only wants to be in the competition when she is doing well; but the moment she gets a bad critique, she wants to go home.

The photo shoot was supposed to capture immigrants coming to Ellis Island. Benny Ninja played the role of the husband in each shot and there were children in the photo as well.  Sandra did a terrible job of grasping the concept so it was no surprise when her photo got a bad critique at panel the next day. London managed to be the only one in the photograph looking away from the camera so it didn’t look realistic. Tahlia had the best picture of the bunch! Who would have thought that would happen? Natalie looked like Keira Knightly but is not very inspirational. Aminat did a good job but didn’t really stand out. Tiana also got a good critique but she looks better in a photo than she does in person. Fo was told she had the worst photo out of her history of pictures so far. Celia was the contest winner but when it came time for the shoot she couldn’t tell the story in her eyes and the child in the background seemed to stand out more than her. Allison looked very editorial but didn’t look like the mother in the photo like she was supposed to. Kortnie’s photo was the least impressive leading to her elimination. Her picture was sour according to Benny Ninja and it just wasn’t a fashion shot.

When the bottom two was between Kortnie and Sandra, I was convinced Sandra was FINALLY going home, but no, somehow she is still in the running in the hopes of becoming America’s Next Top Model. But the episode wasn’t over yet. Celia decided she wanted to stand up for what she thought was right and tell Tyra that Tahlia should be the one going home. Unfortunately for Celia, Tyra was not having it and told her to take her place back with the other girls.
