Ghost Hunters

Edith Wharton Estate – Lenox, Massachusetts

Edith Wharton was an American novelist, short story writer, and designer before her death in 1937 at the age of 75.  She won the Pulitzer prize in 1921 for one of her works, the first woman to win the award.   Her mansion, built in 1902, now serves as a museum and many of it’s workers have reported seeing apparitions of both a man and a woman, as well as, hearing the playful voices of girls, possibly those leftover from when the property served as a girls school. There also have been multiple reports of people hearing footsteps, which the taps team immediately began experiencing when they started their investigation.  A woman was said to have committed suicide in the house when she found out she was pregnant and one could only guess that a former AIG executive must have been the father to cause her such pain.

The investigation was the most lively of the investigations in Season 5 to this point. As mentioned earlier, the entire team was able to experience the footsteps in every building on the estate, yet with these footsteps they were not able to measure any vibration on the floors.  These ghostly footsteps were so loud that they were very audible to the home viewers and at one point sent shivers down my own spine.  The investigators seemed to constantly get responses to the questions they were asking by knocking or rampant K2 readings.  At one point a head seemed to appear a corner of the room to Jason and Grant while they were asking questions.

The evidence proved that the team wasn’t hallucinating on mushrooms or being affected by hyperactivity brought on by high electromagnetic interference commonly found in old buildings with ancient wiring.  The team felt that most of what has been experienced is considered a “residual” haunting, a haunting in which is caught in time without much purpose or intelligence.  Like a tape being replayed time and time again.  The team called the Estate haunted but did not feel a need to warn of ill spirited ghosts, maybe just Edith Wharton looking for one last shot in the spotlight.  If you missed any part of the show, be sure to catch it on the Ghost Hunters website.
