The Biggest Loser Couples

By David McAlpine

Last week on The Biggest Loser: Couples, the blue team lost their third consecutive weigh-in and Cathy decided to sacrifice herself so Aubrey and Kristin could stay on the ranch.

When the blue team returns from the elimination room, the black team is shocked (and, honestly, I was, too). Kristin gets lots of emotional support from everyone, Mike especially. Ron goes on about how he'd sacrifice himself for Mike (but no one else, of course), and Kristin uses the image of her mom's empty bed to motivate herself this week.

Before the next challenge, the contestants meet Allison in the gym. This week's twist: everyone is now competing as an individual player and will go back to wearing their original colors. As Mike, now 118 pounds lighter, steps up to get his new shirt, Allison gives Mike his old brown shirt as well, which now both Mike and Aubrey can fit in.

But that's not all for the twists! Each contestant now gets to pick which trainer they want to have for the rest of their time on the Biggest Loser ranch. Mike, Aubrey and Helen all struggle with their decisions while Filipe and Sione have already decided. Mike chooses to flip a coin (yeah, right) to pick his trainer.

Back in the gym, Allison announces that they will pick in order of percentage body weight lost, starting with the most. Tara picks first (unwillingly so, since she's mad Allison called to everyone's minds that she's in the lead), and goes with Jillian. Mike is next, where he tells everyone about his coin flip (again--yeah, right), which evidently landed on Jillian's side. Ron is upset, thinking his son made the wrong choice (you know, since all 18 year olds are idiots, right?). Helen tearfully picks Jillian, too, which hurts Bob a little bit. Kristin, Filipe and Sione all pick Bob (no surprises there), then Laura picks Jillian, which was a real shocker. Aubrey picks last, choosing to train with Bob. Fresh off their decisions, the contestants hit the gym. Kristin and Tara, both close to the 100 pound-loss mark, push themselves harder than before, each wanting to reach that point.

At the challenge, each contestant is given a scale and several weight blocks equal to the weight they've lost while on the show. Everyone is given the instruction to distribute their weight as they see fit to handicap the other contestants. Allison refuses to reveal the challenge, only that the prize is immunity. The weight starts to pile up on Helen and Tara's scales and Ron goes so far as to say that Bob's trainees were trying to punish those who have "left the pack." Ron has a lot of nerve for all the comments he makes on this show...I mean, come on, really?

Tara ends up with 257 pounds on her scale and is upset that everyone finds her predicament amusing. Tara walks off, not wanting to talk to anyone, though everyone wants to tell her it wasn't personal. Tara starts contemplating leaving the Biggest Loser ranch, but Laura won't hear it. The results of everyone's weights were as follows:

Tara: 257 lbs.

Helen: 215 lbs.

Sione: 92 lbs.

Aubrey: 72 lbs.

Filipe: 67 lbs.

Mike: 63 lbs.

Ron: 37 lbs.

Kristin: 0 lbs.

Laura: 0 lbs.

At the actual challenge (finally), Allison (with the help of some encouragement from NASCAR Driver Clint Bowyer) tells the contestants they have to pull a two ton car nearly half a mile around a racetrack; first one to cross the finish line wins immunity and a Clint Bowyer experience (a.k.a. a NASCAR event). The extra catch: each car will have the added weight from the previous twist. So, let's see here--4,000 pound car...257 extra pounds. Not too much of a handicap if you ask me.

Mike and Sione start out as the early leaders, but Sione starts to slow because he started so quick at the beginning. Tara's steady strategy starts to pay off as she comes up behind Sione and start to pass him. I've honestly never seen a Biggest Loser contestant be so pissed before in a challenge--it's great! Tara obliterates Sione, winning immunity. Tara is obviously excited and can't wait to tell Jillian. Jillian is visibly very proud of Tara and tells her she's well on her way to her goal this week.

Now it's the product of the week (and so late in the show, too)! It's Bob with Jennie-O turkeys--you can even barbecue them!

Back to the game, where it's the last chance workout. Jillian is focusing on Tara, hoping that she can meet her goal of losing 100 pounds, while Bob is hard on Aubrey after he sees her slacking off.

At the weigh-in, Allison reveals that, because the game is individual, the 2 people with the least percentage of weight lost will fall below the yellow line. First up is Tara, who loses 3 pounds, 1 pound short of her goal. The results of the weigh-in are as follows:

Laura: -7 (-3.18%)

Ron: -10 (-3.06%)

Kristin: -8 (-3.04%)

Helen: -5 (-2.75%)

Sione: -7 (-2.56%)

Mike: -6 (-2.22%)

Aubrey: -4 (-2.05%)

Tara: -3 (-1.52%) - IMMUNE

Filipe: -4 (-1.50%)

Kristin breaks the 100 pound mark and then some, becoming the first woman to do so. Ron also puts up a big number, but doesn't enjoy it because Mike is so close to being in danger. We get it, you would do anything for Mike to win (except go home when I want him to).

Since Tara is immune, Aubrey and Filipe are up for elimination. Aubrey, feeling she has a small chance of staying, pleads to stay because she's scared to go home. Filipe simply tells everyone to vote with their hearts, then the two leave the rest to deliberate.

In the elimination room, Tara votes for Filipe because Mandi went home so Aubrey could stay. Mike votes for Aubrey and Laura votes for Filipe, saying Aubrey needs to stay. Helen claims her and Aubrey never got to know each other, so she votes for Aubrey. Kristin and Ron vote for Aubrey, too, sending her home.

Leaving the Biggest Loser campus having lost 58 pounds, Aubrey returns home with a goal of reaching 125 pounds before the finale. Aubrey's dad tells her he has lost 26 pounds since she came home and she congratulates him. Aubrey starts to slip at home, gaining 3 pounds after 8 days and 9 pounds after 19 days. Two months after being at home, Aubrey is 10 pounds closer to her goal.
