American Idol 8

You would think, with all the technology in the world these days, that DVR systems would pick up on the fact that a show that is recording is running late.  Surely Amazing Race fans know what I'm talking about, especially when it airs in the middle of football season.  I'm constantly forced to tape Cold Case as well, just so I don't miss who makes it to the mat first on The Amazing Race.  A similar problem took place last night when American Idol wandered past their 9:00 end time.  Did they really think they were going to fit in 8 performances, plus the results from the judges?  For those unlucky fans whose DVRs stopped recording, they missed a surprise ending... a change to the lineup that shocked the contestants.

Before I get to who did make it, let's talk about who didn't.  As if I wasn't shocked enough when the judges didn't give Junot Joyer a second chance after he was eliminated Wednesday night, I was dumbfounded when Ricky Braddy wasn't chosen to advance in the Wild Card round.  I just don't understand why the judges were against him but if I ever meet up with Simon Cowell in a dark alley, I'll be sure to confront him about it.  I can't complain completely, especially when Matt Giraud and Jasmine Murray advanced.  They were two of my picks to move on and two contestants I have been fans of since their initial auditions.

Jasmine was not the only female to advance in last night's Wild Card round.  The judges ultimately decided to put Megan Joy Corkrey through, who despite a strange rendition of "Black Horse and Cherry Tree", brings something unique to the show.  Finally, it all boiled down to Matt Giraud and Anoop Desai.  I audibly cheered when the judges picked Matt but no sooner was my victory dance in progress when Simon announced that, at the last minute, this season would feature a Top 13.  Anoop was moving on, too.  Really?  The guy who sang "My Perrogative" over Ricky Braddy?  Don't get me wrong.  Anoop is a lot of fun but if someone can tell me how he would be marketable as an artist, I'll drop it.

Here is American Idol's Top 13: Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nunez, Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey, Matt Giraud, and Anoop Desai.  Let the (real) competition begin!
