American Idol Season 8

On last night's results show of American Idol, fans voted Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, and Jorge Nunez into the Top 12.  They join: Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Kris Allen.  With only 3 spots left in the competition, it was up the judges to give contestants previously overlooked by America a second chance to impress and make it to the finals.

The contestants competing in tonight's wild card round are: Von Smith, Jasmine Murray, Ricky Braddy, Megan Joy Corkrey, Tatiana Del Toro, Matt Giraud, Jess Langseth, and Anoop Desai.  None of the picks by the judges really surprised me - not even crazy Tatiana Del Toro.  They know she's good television, even if she doesn't get that she's just there for people to laugh at her.  The only oversight that left me scratching my head was that of Junot Joyer.  He was one of the final two contestants standing on last night's results show but America went with Jorge Nunez over him.  I thought the Top 12 could use a smooth R&B singer but apparently, the judges felt differently.

I'd love to see a few people really redeem themselves after solid Hollywood performances and not so stellar Top 36 performances.  Those people are: Jasmine Murray, Ricky Braddy, and Matt Giraud.  If Ricky Braddy is not part of this year's Top 12, I think I may have to throw something at my screen.  Jasmine Murray will have to work hard to prove that she can compete with reigning diva Lil Rounds while Matt Giraud will need to leave a lasting impression in the judges' and America's minds.

The 8 Wild Card picks will take the stage tonight on American Idol at 8pm ET on FOX.
