Make Me A Supermodel 2

by Kristal Bailey

The new season of Make Me a Supermodel starts off with a grand entrance! Tyson Beckford explains the ins and outs of the shows, and then throws everyone for a loop revealing he will not be a judge this year, but rather, a mentor along with a new addition to the show – Nicole Trunfio. She’s revealed in a giant clear box being suspended in the air. This is the first photo shoot – they are wasting no time. Two contestants at a time go up in to the box wearing sexy sleepwear and need to convey an intimate moment between just the two of them while the whole world watches from the NYC streets.

The partners are picked and there are a few same sex couples, causing some tension between the guys. Brandon is very uncomfortable working with Chris, his first encounter with a homosexual, and it shows in the photo shoot. The lingerie brings up an issue for Salome, who was raised Mennonite. However, she overcame any issues she had and totally rocked the photo shoot. She actually won the challenge and got to go on a go-see. She’s allowed to take one other person with her and immediately makes some enemies by proclaiming she’s going to pick someone she knows she can beat – CJ. They go to the designer, but Salome needs to work on her walk and CJ is more of a print model so neither land any work, but they did get some constructive criticism.

Back at the apartment the contestants bond over alcohol and reveal a bit about themselves. There are some very interesting characters in the mix. Sandhurst, who already stands out from the rest, was a professional ballet dancer. Salome was raised Mennonite, which I feel will be her shtick for the show since she mentions it every time she was on camera. I really like the potential for drama that Make Me a Supermodel provides just by having men and women, homosexual and straight, living together in such a high-pressure situation. This looks like it’ll be an interesting season.

Later that day the president of New York Model Management comes to the apartment to measure and critique the potential supermodels’ bodies. After putting them through the ringer, he reveals the catwalk challenge. The judges focus on the walk, turn, and pose on the catwalk. The women’s clothing seemed to be more challenging with oversized skirts and jackets with high necklines. After all the contestants walk, six are singled out – Jordan, Chris, Colin, Ken, Salome, and Sandhurst. They selected the strongest of the group – Sandhurst, Jordan, and Salome, and the weakest of the group – Colin, Ken, and Chris. One by one they announce who’s safe and Jordan won the catwalk challenge and is now safe next week. I feel Sandhurst was more graceful and fierce, but she did have the more challenging outfit. And in the end, Ken is going home. He was too muscular and not into fashion, so I completely agree with this decision.

The preview for the season looks intense and full of drama! I’ll definitely be tuning in for the next new episode of Make Me a Supermodel – Wednesdays 10pm ET/PT on Bravo.
