The Bachelor 13 Finale

By Mary Cavaliere

Tonight is the night we’ve all been waiting for. Who would Jason choose, Melissa or Molly?

Tye joined Jason in New Zealand to meet these two lovely ladies in Jason’s life, and to help his Dad make the final decision.

Melissa was so great with Tye. When the three of them were visiting with the lamb it was picture perfect. Then Melissa was off to meet Jason’s family which also seemed to be a great fit for everyone involved. When Jason and Melissa spent their last day together on a yacht, they seemed to be able to find the fun behind the rain and bad weather, and that was a good sign, because there’s always lots of bad weather to endure during a marriage if you get my drift! Jason’s time with Melissa ended with a phone conversation between him and her family and it seemed to go extremely well.

When Molly met Tye things didn’t go as smoothly right away. Although Tye warmed up to Molly eventually, I think the fact that it took him some time says something. If there’s one thing I know for sure, kids and dogs have extremely powerful intuition and instincts and you have to pay attention to them! When Molly met Jason’s family they all seemed convinced that she was right for him but honestly I didn’t. There’s was just something about her with Jason that didn’t feel right, and it was somewhat unsettling. It’s not that she’s a bad person or anything. I just think she’s too young and too inexperienced to become part of a ready-made family. She may think she wants to settle down, but from little comments she’s made about career, I don’t think she’s as ready as she thinks she is, and the entire thing could blow up in Jason’s face down the road. When Molly spent her last day with Jason I saw it as Molly – massage – manipulation. Although it was a great night together, I know from my own experience, that it is not necessarily enough to make a marriage endure. It seemed to me that Jason was "sold" after reading the book Molly wrote for him, where she opened her heart completely to him, but I was watching and cringing because I felt like he was making a huge mistake.

And then there was DeAnna. I was sooooo thankful that he didn’t choose her. She is a great catch, but I also feel she had her chance and she tossed it aside carelessly. DeAnna broke his heart and if she did it once she could do it again, and Jason deserves so much more than that.

When Jason told Molly goodbye I felt so relieved. I know she thought he was making a big mistake, but I didn’t. Melissa was on my top five from the beginning and obviously she was on Jason’s top five as well and stayed there throughout the competition.

It was difficult to watch Jason come to the realization that he was still in love with Molly and had to end it with Melissa. I think I was as angry with him as Melissa was. It was such a "typical male" type of reaction….things got a little too hard for him and he bailed. Been there, done that! My sister just text messaged me and said "I just lost all respect for him." Ditto! Damn you Jason – we were all rooting for You! He may not have lied to Melissa, but somewhere along the way he surely has been lying to himself.

As for poor little Melissa, she appears to have the wisdom and strength needed to move forward knowing that one day retrospect will give her the answers she is looking for with regard to why this didn’t work out as planned. She’s going to be just fine.

I have to say the look on Molly’s face was priceless. If I was reading her thoughts correctly she was thinking "Who the hell are you and what are you thinking????" But then she caved and made the decision to let Jason into her heart and into her life one more time. When DeAnna chose Jesse I gave it six months, and that’s exactly how long it lasted. As for Jason and Molly, I think it will only lead to more heartbreak for Molly, but I guess that will remain to be seen.
