The Real World Brooklyn

There is certainly no love lost this week between the guys and the girls of The Real World: Brooklyn house.  The roomies faced off over the mess in the house, with the boys claiming that the girls did nothing to keep the place neat and clean.  When JD's buttons were pushed, over the girls contradicting themselves and laughing him out, he snapped.  After smashing the table in the living room into a million pieces, he ripped the phone out of Devyn's hand, and the wall, and threw it into the water.  Though both sides eventually reached an agreement, it's doubtful that the peace has been restored for too long.  This week, Katelynn, Chet, Baya, and Sarah all weighed in, answering RealityWanted's burning questions about the mess, JD, and the rift in the house.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You seemed to completely keep your cool when the boys were yelling at you on this week's episode. What went through your mind when JD smashed the table and was there any part of you that thought about having production intervene at that moment?
A. Sarah: I remember thinking how glad I am that I DON’T overreact to people yelling at me. I grew up in a family of yellers, so I was used to it.... and I know NOTHING gets worked out when all parties yell.... its about LISTENING! Duh...

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: It's obvious that you and Ryan have a tight relationship. Do you feel caught in the middle between the battle of the girls and the boys that is raging in the house right now?
A. Baya: Not necessarily. At that point, I felt very little loyalty towards Ryan or any of the guys for that matter. Ryan and I have had our own arguments, and we have absolutely grown apart. He, along with the rest of the guys, would categorize the girls into one entity so I held all of them in the same light also. Catty as hell. The whole argument on every end was hypocritical. JD was getting mad at the girls for talking behind the boys’ backs, yet JD did the same thing behind ours.  PPAALLLEASE!  Devyn said it best when she talked about how they failed to see the fault in themselves. I hated the rift of the sexes though... having that kind of divide in the house was really hard to stay sane in.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Why is that the guys in the house can get along with JD but the girls can't?
A. Chet: That is a burning good question... such that my nipple hair is singed just reading it.  JD is a great person and one that is possessed of maternal (not a typo) instincts. He was constantly cleaning the house, buying food for others and using a rather impressive rolodex to further everyone's ambitious purposes.  Baya's dance instructor....JD's friend. The man who remedied Katelyn's do-it-yourself highlights....JD's friend.  Because JD could let things slide, I felt that the girls acquired a sense of dominance when confrontation did arise between him and one of the females. In episode 8, we were able to see Sarah's unwillingness when JD tried, sincerely, to create a more peaceful environment. Why didn't they like him? I don't know.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Alright Katelynn, here’s your burning question.  Are we supposed to believe that the girls contributed to 100% of the mess in that house and the boys were all a bunch of neat freaks?
A. Katelynn: FLAMING ANSWER- Hahaha, no! Actually, what was shown could not have been further from the truth. True, Devyn and I had the messiest room in the house, but we were both okay with that. Our dishwasher was being run almost 24 hours a day when we were in Brooklyn - 8 people go through a LOT of food - so it wasn't unusual to see a stray plate or cup in the sink. We all did our best to clean up after ourselves, but the boys were just as bad in other areas.

The camera crews never showed Sarah waking up at 6am and cleaning house. They didn't show me cleaning the showers or the girls dusting and taking care of the plants. Yes, the boys perpetually took out the trash, but isn't that the predominately male household job?  Sarah and JD were arguably the neatest people in the entire borough of Brooklyn and Devyn and I could arguably be the most disorganized, and in the middle fell Baya, Scott, Chet, and Ryan (you don't even want to know what Chet and Ryan's rooms looked like half the time).

Bottom line, we ALL did our best to pick up after ourselves. Yes, sometimes some people would slip, but that was a rotating revolving thing, it wasn't just the girls all the time.
