Exclusive Interview with Carolina Eastwood of Survivor: Tocantins

On last night's season premiere of Survivor: Tocantins, Jeff Probst wasted no time throwing a twist at the 16 players. The contestants were divided into 2 tribes, Jalapao and Timbira, with no say as to who they wanted to play this game with. They were instructed to vote players out before introductions even took place but those two players (Sandy and Sierra) ended up taking a helicopter ride to their camps, instead of making the exhausting 4 hour trip with the others.   At the reward/immunity challenge, Timbira was able to pull off their first win, sending Jalapao to tribal council.  It came down to Sandy and Carolina and the tribe ultimately decided that it was Carolina who would go home.  Today, she spoke to RealityWanted in an exclusive interview.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: How did you end up getting cast on Survivor this season?
A. Carolina: I was recruited.  It was the opportunity of a lifetime.  I would have been stupid if I didn’t take it.  I knew I’d get something out of it, even if I didn’t win one million dollars, some kind of strength.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did you have any reservations about going into the game?
A. Carolina: I’m a person where… if I’m gonna do something, I go into it completely.  I wasn’t nervous going into Survivor.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: That first day in the game looked pretty brutal because of the heat.  How did you deal with it?
A. Carolina: I’m okay with heat, being born in Panama and raised in Florida.  It was bad.  The hottest day was 137 degrees and the humidity was awful.  Add that with the mosquitos… it was not ok.  It was excruciating.  At night, the temperatures would go down to freezing.  None of us could stay warm.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Were you happy that you were put on the Jalapao tribe?
A. Carolina: I was!  I’m a huge fan of the Jalapao tribe.  I was a little annoyed that Spencer complained about not having an Ipod though.  I was like, “Hi, you’re on Survivor.”  But I had an awesome tribe.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Did your tribe make a mistake in voting you out first?
A. Carolina: They made a huge mistake.  I wanted our camp to get finished and in 3 days, the shelter was not built.  My tribe made a mistake because I’m really good at puzzles and other things, too.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: Do you know who you would have wanted to align yourself with in this game, had you been able to stay?
A. Carolina: Yeah, Ty and Stephen.  Ty is a powerhouse and I have to respect that.  Stephen is the one person you would never think would kill you in this game.  I cannot wait to see what this man does.  On Timbira, I knew I wanted to work with Tyson and Sierra.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: You were shown as being opinionated and perhaps rubbing your fellow players the wrong way.  Do you think that was an accurate portrayal of who you are, when you watch it back on tv?
A. Carolina: The production crew… they did their jobs.  I have to tip my hat to them.

Q. Gina, RealityWanted: What is the goal from here?  Is the goal to be on tv or was it to go on Survivor for the experience?
A. Carolina: I went to L.A. to be an actor or to host.  It’s been my dream since I was little.  I didn’t do Survivor to become an actress, though.  I wanted to bring awareness and I also did it for the challenge to prove that I can do it.  One million dollars would pay my mom’s house off.  I want to give back to my parents because they worked so hard.  I wanted to say, “Let me do this for you.”  I also wanted to raise awareness about domestic violence and rape.  I am hoping to change some laws and speak out about a taboo subject.  I didn’t do this for fame.  I did it for the inner strength and to give back to others.  When a gift like Survivor is given to you, you can’t be selfish.
