The Bachelor Recap - Jason Meets Family & Friends

This week Jason traveled to each of the girls’ hometowns to spend time with them and to meet their families.  It was an interesting visit that was for sure!

Jillian was first. Jason questions if Jillian is too strong and is concerned that maybe she won’t need him very much, and that’s something he prefers in a woman.  When Jillian shared her family story about how her mother was depressed and suicidal for 15 years, Jason got to see another side of Jillian, a more vulnerable side, which was a good thing.  Jason got along fabulously with her family and it was all good.  I feel Jillian could make it down to the final two but I just don’t see him choosing her over Melissa or Molly in the end.

Molly was the next one up.  Jason seemed to enjoy his visit with Molly and her family, but honestly, I saw a big red flag with this visit.  I understand Molly wanting to have her family accept the man she falls in love with, but to be so black and white about not being with a man her family does not accept is disturbing to me.  She is very young and has never been married before and that inexperience really showed.  It may not have been obvious to Jason that she isn’t ready to be married, but she showed me she is definitely not.  I’m not saying a child should disrespect their parents, but if an individual, any individual doesn’t want to “disappoint” her parents, there is nothing but trouble coming for that married couple because it means when her parents tell her to do one thing and her husband tells her to do something else she will be forced to make a choice and alienate one of the two.  “Forsaking all others” is written into the wedding vows for a reason.  It means your spouse, not your parents, must always be considered first.  My mother wasn’t the Dali Lama but she taught me early on that once you take that vow, your spouse BECOMES your family first and foremost, even over your parents.  Since Molly doesn’t appear to have enough independence to stand on her own decisions and not seek the approval of her parents, this relationship, and for that matter all romantic relationships, will probably not endure the test of time.  There are five things that top the list of why people get divorced and in-laws is one of them.  So I say RUN JASON RUN!!!  It doesn’t matter how cute or smart she is, she’s too young and too naïve to step into your already established family life.

Naomi was next and although Jason was kind in complimenting her family, it was obvious by his face that he didn’t feel comfortable with them.  I can certainly see why her parents are divorced.  Her father is a born-again Christian preaching Jesus and her mother is a New Age seeker who believes in re-incarnation, which is about as far away from the Bible as you can get.  Naomi’s Mom thinks Naomi is an Indigo Child.  Yes, I used to think mine was too, but now I realize that it was just wishful thinking on my part that MY child could be so spiritually evolved.  I won’t delve any further into this subject as part of this blog, but I have studied religion and spirituality for over twenty years, and I’m an ordained minister who “gets” both of her parents.  I could see where Jason would never fit into either side of this family.  Not because he’s not a wonderful person, he is.  But on a spiritual level, he’s not very evolved himself, and he would think most of it on either side was pure lunacy, which is what most people think about things they do not understand.

Melissa was last and unfortunately Jason did not get to meet her family.  They are too private and do not want the exploration of their relationship with Jason to be filmed and publicized.  I felt so bad for Melissa since I’ve been rooting for her the whole way, and after tonight’s show, I feel she is truly the only one for Jason out of the four remaining.  When she took out that tooth fairy box, that said a lot to both Jason and the audience.  Melissa is ready to be a Mom, and probably a damn good one at that.  So I prayed Jason wouldn’t let this interfere with his decision to keep Melissa around a bit longer.  My prayers were answered when he chose Naomi to go home this week.
