The Real World: Brooklyn - Episode 5 Recap

On this week’s episode of The Real World: Brooklyn, it’s time for yet another cast member to begin pursuing his or her dream.  The latest to go after what he wants is Chet, who is looking to become the next big television host.  His ultimate goal is to become the host of MTV’s TRL so imagine his surprise when he found out that the show had been cancelled.  In the meantime, he’s been doing pulling hosting duty for the website FriendsOrEnemies.com, interviewing up and coming bands like Hey Monday and established well known artists, such as Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.

The pranks in The Real World house seem to be getting a bit out of control.  Ryan’s prank of the week was fun: he took everyone’s shoes and relaced them backwards, which was annoying at most.  After figuring out that he was the culprit, JD decided to get revenge on Ryan and sprayed shaving cream all over the bedroom that he shares with Chet while the two were sleeping.  Ryan was anything but amused and stormed into JD’s room to scream at him for waking him up.  Scott thought, perhaps, that his overreaction stems from his time in Iraq, that maybe there are things Ryan has not let go of or forgotten.

Ryan opens up to his housemates, admitting that many people he know are suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after leaving Iraq but he insists that he’s fine.  It’s hard to imagine how he could be fine since he has had friends that have committed suicide after returning home and he has seen friends die in combat right in front of his eyes.  Still, Ryan insists that he’s okay and that it’s better that he keeps his feelings to himself.  He connects with one of his military friends, who lives in New York, and the two attend the 9/11 commemoration ceremony together.  The date has a lot of significance for Ryan, since it is not only the date of the terrorist attacks, but the date he enlisted in the military, and the date he returned home from his time overseas.

Meanwhile, Scott and his girlfriend decide to end their relationship after the distance appears to be too much for her to handle.  He immediately bounces back by inviting different girls to his house and catches flack from his housemates about it.  Scott insists that he is treating these girls with the utmost respect and he is not a player.  Devyn, however, does not appreciate his behavior and makes sure to let him know it.  It seems to be a bit of the jealousy talking and don’t think that Scott hasn’t caught on!

On next week’s episode of The Real World, Ryan becomes fed up with the fact that Katelynn will not open up to him so he decides to take matters into his own hands and confronts her.
