Interview with Terrance and Sarah from The Amazing Race 13

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Thanks for taking the time to chat with us today guys. So start out by telling us how you two found yourself on the show?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: I always knew we were going to get on, we are just too dynamic.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: We were fans for a very long time ever before we met.  We are physically active and we both love to travel.  We traveled to a wedding oversees a little while ago and when we got back it just clicked that we should apply. Terrance filled out all the information and made a tape and here we are.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: I was told you are asked during the interview and casting process what season or team you liked on past shows, what did you guys say and why?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: For me I liked Uchenna and Joyce and how supportive they were with one another. There were scenes that really moved me and I think it moved a lot of people. I think that's the type of person I am and I don't think it came across to well on the show.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: I liked them both as well. Earlier in the year I split my head open in the gym and had to get stitched up and Terrance came in to support me. We were kind of like Uchenna and Joyce at that moment.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: I know this wasn't on The Amazing Race, but how did you split your head open?

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: I was in the gym and stood up too fast and slammed it into the locker door.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: I am going to jump right to the elimination, I know you only have your individual field of view during the race and not what we see on each episode. I want to know how far behind you guys were from Andrew and Dan and was it hard to watch last night?

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: They told us we were seven minutes behind Dan and Andrew. It was bitter sweet since the fast forward was an hour to it and an hour back and after all of that we were only seven minutes behind.

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: It wasn't too hard to watch since I knew the outcome, but when we watched it and I saw Sarah's eyes tear up and watching her get sad saddened me.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: During the fast forward, were you really that far behind Nick and Star and why not stop and leave sooner?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: I didn't want to eat it, it was repulsive but at first we didn't know it was meat. At one point I got up and walked to Star's table to see how far back I was and I saw she had eaten half of it. I knew it was too late and we had to leave.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: As we discussed earlier, we all know you guys have your own field of view during the race and you do not get to see what is going on with each team. Something must have surprised you about a person or team since you have been watching the show?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: I was surprised that some of the other teams made comments about us without knowing us. As you noticed we never said anything bad about others, we just competed against ourselves.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: It was fun to see what tripped up the other teams or how they got lost.

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: When I spoke with Lynne Spillman in CBS casting a year ago about The Amazing Race casting she said many people make the mistake assuming this show is about traveling when its core is more about relationships, would you agree?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: When we applied we knew nothing about what they wanted and just sent in a tape.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: I remember when we were in the finals in LA, we got into a big fight and I started crying and said I was leaving. Just then Lynne called asking us to come in for another interview and during it we started to fight, I thought we would never make it since we were arguing but in hindsight they probably loved it.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Besides skipping the fast forward what would you do differently?

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: Before we went on the race I think we were too focused on challenges, so we did things like milking cows and repelling down mountains. Those things helped but we never thought about how to calm ourselves down during pressure or how to think clearly and be calm during and argument, we didn't train for non physical things.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: What was your favorite stop on the race?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: New Zealand was great, we got to drive for so many hours and see some great stuff, we got to just be us.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: I think we both liked New Zealand. Not too many people know just how hard it was to squeeze that Kiwi juice, I needed medical attention after it was over.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: What about the paint that came out of your nose after the deal in India?

A. Terrance, The Amazing Race 13: That was tough also, but crushing the peers had to have been the hardest.

A. Sarah, The Amazing Race 13: I agree, it was like being covered from head to toe in mace.

Mark, RealityWanted.com: Well guys I had a great time speaking with you both, The Amazing Race has to be one of RealityWanted.com's staffs favorite. Thanks for your time and feel free to contact us anytime to keep us up to date on what you're doing.
