Interview with Christy and Kelly of The Amazing Race 13

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Whose idea was it to apply for the show?

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: Christy and I have watched the shows for years and had a friend that appeared on season one. We wanted to do something out of the ordinary and travel. Our other best friend said we should try out, so we sent in a tape and made it.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: So you guys didn't go to one of the open casting calls for The Amazing Race?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: No, most of the teams went to open casting calls. We actually sent in a tape via last years guidelines.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com:  You guys said you watched prior seasons, so does a particular season or duo stand out?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: We were asked that during finals week during the interview process. It seems cliché to say, but we liked Dustin and Candice.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: When you found you landed a spot on the show, did you do anything special to prepare?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13:  Kelly and I started kicking up our physical fitness training. We actually put 10 pounds in our backpacks and started exercising and running with them on.

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: We also bought language cd's to study up on foreign languages.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: I was going to ask if you looked over maps but studying up on languages sounds like it would help more. Last night was crazy with all the powdered paint colors being thrown in your face. Kelly, you took a beating and I think I saw Tina go after a guy and Terrance checked a dude as he ran out for a cab.

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: I got it worse than anyone and because I couldn't get the clue right I had to run in it several times so my whole face was black. Tina never used foul language during the entire show until that episode. I honestly couldn't breathe and thought I was going to die.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: When you're on the race do you get much sleep?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: We did not have down time in between legs of the race. We typically had 12 - 36 hours between race legs and during that time we had to interview and prepare for the next race.
A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: I usually need at least 8 hours of sleep a night to feel rested but during the race we ran on adrenaline.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Christy, based upon your comments during the show things just weren't real peachy with the ex husband?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: I don't want to talk negatively about my ex husband since he really isn't even important enough to talk about. I just went through a horrible relationship, but it lead to a great life experience on The Amazing Race.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: I am sure you saw Andrew and Dan talking about how happy they were to see you fall behind. Did that surprise you or did anything else you see on TV surprise you?

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: I was surprised to hear Dan and Andrew called us semi attractive and I was also surprised just how sneaky Nick and Star were and how they ran the race.

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: I would echo how sneaky and devious Nick and Star were. I did accuse her of pushing my bra off the ledge, but after watching the show Nick is such an actor. During the race I liked him more than Star, but after watching the episodes I see how sneaky Nick really is.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Was it hard to see Nick and Star come in first during the same episode you were eliminated?

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: It hurt since they were our strongest competition and we wanted to beat them.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: What would you guys do different and/or what advice would you give to the next group of Amazing Racers?

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: I would have read clues and paid more attention to the details. If I had to give advice to future racers I would say, take the time to read the clues.

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: I would say the same thing and it's weird since it's a race but I would tell future racers to slow down, read the clues, and reread the clues.

Q. Mark, RealityWanted.com: Anything you want to share with fans before we go?

A. Kelly, The Amazing Race 13: I would like to tell fans we do have a heart of gold and appreciate all the support. Christy and I started The Amazing Grace Foundation.  People can learn more by going to  http://www.kellyandchristy.com

A. Christy, The Amazing Race 13: I don't want to address the negative things said about us online since viewers only got to see a snapshot of who we really are. What I really want to give is a big thank you and hug to the fans and sites like realityfanforum.com. It has been really awesome!
