I Got My Kenny And You Got Your Sugar On Survivor 17: Gabon
By: Mary Cavaliere

Don’t you just love that title?  Catchy huh?  That’s what Matty said to Ace when they were building an alliance early in this week’s episode.

The first challenge consisted of each tribe being tethered to a 200 pound, 20 foot long rubber snake.  Each team started in the middle of a running track with the other team on the opposite side. The object of the challenge was for one tribe to catch up and tag the other tribe.  However, if any individual tribe member became too fatigued, they had the option of opting out of the challenge and thus placiang more of a physical burden on their fellow tribe mates. The reward was food of course.  There was lots of coffee, fruit, and éclairs.

FANG didn’t do well from the get-go.  Kenny and Sugar dropped out early and then Matty pushed Kelly out of the challenge leaving himself, Ace, and Crystal to carry the burden.  I was surprised when Crystal dropped out as well since she looks stronger than some of the men on her tribe.  KODA, on the other hand, only had one person drop out - Suzie – leaving five strong men left to win.

For the fourth time the KODA tribe sent Sugar off to Exile Island.  It was downright mean.  And speaking of mean, when FANG lost the challenge Crystal starting crying and Kenny looked at her and said mockingly “wah wah wah”.  Crystal isn’t one of my favorites either, but she described Kenny perfectly.  He’s a troll who’s mean and angry at the world. I agree and his day is coming!!!

The immunity challenge consisted of each tribe dividing into three pairs of two tribe members tethered by a rope.  The object of the challenge was for each pair to craw under a net and race into the jungle, navigate an obstacle, get a couple pieces of a flag pole, and then race back so the next pair could set out to do the same.  The first tribe to build their tribal flag with all the retrieved pole pieces won immunity.

For a while it seemed the two tribes were neck and neck but at the end it was the teamwork of KODA that won the challenge.  As Ace struggled alone to put the pole together, the challenge was lost, and it was once again back to tribal council for KODA. There was lots of fighting prior to the actual voting taking place, and it was obvious Kelly was going home, but what I thought was funny was Kelly talked about how Crystal was weak, yet she never saw her own weakness.  That, combined with her big mouth, is what got her sent home this early in the game.
