That's How We Roll – Biggest Loser Recap September 30

By Carrie Falquist - www.carriefalquist.com

This week finds the Biggest Loser Families taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon.  What better way to celebrate family than the quintessential road trip?

The first stop on the drive to the Grand Canyon was a temptation challenge at a convenience store.  The prize was a luxury recreational vehicle for the winning couple, while the other competitors were to sleep in tents.  Ed and Heba, the Orange team, won the challenge, proving that they have paid attention to the calorie count in common snack foods.

At the campsite, with no trainers, most of the contestants took it easy on the workouts, some even skipping exercise entirely in lieu of a nap.   Oh well, at least they were well rested for the reward challenge.

For this challenge, which had a Jayco RV up for grabs, had the families paddling out in kayaks attached to ropes.  One team member had to paddle out as far as they could, then when the horn sounded, their partners would try to pull in the other contestants.   At the very end, the Red and Orange teams were fighting it out, but ultimately, the Orange team won this incredible prize.

That evening, around the campfire, the Biggest Loser cast celebrated Colleen's 24th birthday.  It was quite the love fest as each person went around the circle and told her how fabulous she was.  The sweet words said got her father so choked up, he couldn't speak.  It was really touching.

At the end of a week of tent camping, the families were ready to get back to the ranch, as their workouts had suffered.

Weigh ins this week had a twist, in true Biggest Loser fashion.  Only one team would fall below the yellow line, and that team had to decide which member was going to go home, and which one was staying at the ranch to continue their journey.   In the contestant interviews between weigh ins, Brady mentioned that he felt lost, and was angry because they didn't have a gym or a trainer this past week.  I have to throw in my two cents and say that it was ridiculous.

No one said they needed to sit on their rear ends or take leisurely strolls around the campgrounds.  Seriously, they were at the Grand Canyon.  They should have been waking up at dawn and taking an hour to hour and a half hike up the hills, then doing it again in the evenings.

The weigh ins were up and down for everyone.  Some were pretty impressive, while others certainly showed their lack of exercise the preceding days.  It ended up that the yellow team fell below the line, after Jerry gained two pounds.  They had to make the devastating choice to send Jerry home.

Once home, though, he was able to keep on trucking, and got a special visit from Dr. H, who let him know that he had all but eliminated his cardiac risk factors.   Since starting his journey, he has lost 70 pounds, and is now running every day.  Go Jerry!
