America's Got Talent week 6 Recap
by Arthur Perkins

This episode started with brief clips of the best acts so far, then it moved to New York and later to Los Angeles. Are we ever going to finish the preliminary auditions?

This episode of the competition started with Perry Zanett, a 49 year old actor who was demonstrating his dramatic acting talents. He was buzzed off and got no votes as well as having a negative relationship with the fickle audience. After being eliminated, Perry had some choice words for David Hasselhoff, along the lines of "he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag". Those who watched David in Baywatch would probably agree, but David's singing talents are considerable so he has the right to judge talent.

I had trouble catching names as not all were shown on screen. The next act was a man named something like Sweet Lou, a falsetto singer who did not sing sweetly. He got buzzed off quickly.

The Power Team was a few well built males breaking blocks of ice and doing other strength demonstrations. Nobody was much interested.

Seed and Feed Marching Abominable could easily be renamed Circus of Freaks. They got the axe quickly.

Now we come to a mix of mostly good acts discussed below.

Fun With Hand Shadows was an incredible puppetry act with backlighting through hands and arms projecting dark shadows unto a screen was the totally creative and interesting act. The hand-puppet-master did politicians - Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, John F. Kennedy, and Pope John Paul 2. The duo of announcer and performer are going to Las Vegas.

Xavier Lewis (XL) is a singer of love ballads. He has a fine voice and will be going a long way in this competition.

The Texas State Strutters are about 15 (I could not count them because the editor of this segment chopped it up so badly with crosscuts between the judges faces and the act) beautiful coeds from that University in San Marcos TX. They were mimicing a Rockette performance and I though they were entertaining but not fabulous. Sharon voted no, but the male judges voted yes and so this group goes to Las Vegas.

Allie is a 10 year old hip hopper. He's cute and he's going to Las Vegas but has little chance of making it more than one round there.

The troupe of dancers the Awakening was on camera and off so quickly that I can't even tell you what style of dancing they do. They are moving ahead in spite of that.

Georgia Fans were about 12 cheerleaders. They are good, but I don't see them going very far either, but they are going to the next round.

Ron Balula did a parody of a male stripper that showed off his dancing skills to the tune "All Night Long". He also sang while dancing and was not bad. He is going to the next round although David voted no. He not not last long there.

A Father/son duo were the Snake Kissers. They brought a live cobra onstage and had the father attempt successfully to kiss the top of the head of the cobra while the cobra was biting a black hat. It was truly different, but judged not ready for prime time due I presume to the dangers involved.

Michael Harrison is a ventriloquist. One of the judges pointed out that with Terry Fator winning last year a ventriloquist would have to be equally entertaining but not repetitive with his act. Michael was definitely entertaining and the most creative performer of the evening. He ordered a specific audience member (a plant?) to come to the stage and directed him to move his lips whenever prompted by a movement of Michael's hand on the back of his head. The dummy perfectly performed a spiel that was fascinating to watch and hear. Michael could be the next Terry Fator. He is definitely going far into the AGT final rounds.

Emily Davis was saved for last, perhaps because she is a 40 year old inspiring rhythm and blues singer named Queen Emily with a fabulous voice. She is also going very far.

It was revealed that next week is the end of the audition rounds and that they have saved many of the best acts for the final audition week episode. The following week is the first Las Vegas round, with the field of acts cut to the best 40.

I have to place Michael and Emily in the group of really excellent acts, which is now up to a total of 8.
