Big Brother 10: Week-One Recap

Words by Nikki Maria

What's up everyone! Did you hear? Big Brother 10 premiered on July 13. This is exciting news because your girl is a huge fan of the show. So don't worry about missing an episode due to late nights at work, or even if you find yourself drinking one cocktail too many during Happy Hour. I got cha! I'll be blogging right here throughout the week, giving readers the 4-11 on house-related gossip, rumors, backstabbing and failed alliances. Are you ready for another season of Big Brother fun? Then read on...

Big Brother 10 is the first season since season 3 that the houseguests do not know each other. Yep! You will not see married couples collaborating to win the grand prize, nor will you see battles of the sexes or ex-s' cat fighting their ways to the top. It's every man and woman for themselves-an opportunity to play the game using winning strategies without relying on a relationship formed outside of the Big Brother House. Furthermore, this season's cast is extremely diverse, with houseguests ranging in age from 22 to 75-from an openly gay cowboy to a preacher's son to a beauty salon owner to a financial manager.

First Head of Household

Jerry, 75, won season 10's first Head of Household (HOH). Did I mention that he's an Ex-Marine? That's right-and a Retired Marketing Executive and a Great Grandfather too! But don't let his age fool you, because Papa is one tough cookie and a diehard Big Brother fan. And I bet he's got strategy for years in that wisdom-filled head of his! Speaking of strategy, Jerry thought it would be a fair (and safe) move to nominate Jessie and Renny for season 10's first eviction. Jerry claimed that he decided to nominate the two because of a previous conflict they had the night before. Hm. Was that the real reason, Jerry? What tricks do you REALLY have up those sleeves?

"Veto" Victory

The Veto competition shakes up Jerry's nominations, as Jessie wins the Power of Veto (POV). And of course, Jessie takes himself of off the chopping block. Jerry is put into a situation where he must replace Jessie, putting someone else up for possible eviction. So who did he pick? Brian! Did that shock the hell out of "B" or what! I guess Brian thought he had some sort of alliance with Jerry, therefore, he wasn't expecting to be nominated in his wildest dreams. So there you have it-Renny and Brian are the new nominees. Who will go home?

Eviction Day

And the votes are in ... by a vote of 9-1, Brian is the first houseguest of the season to be evicted from the Big Brother House. It's funny ... Brian really thought he had-it-in-the-bag and wasn't going anywhere. The 27-year-old Telecommunications Account Manager from California (Brian) thought he was calling all the shots this week. Arrogance at its best! I guess Brian wasn't thinking as strategically as he thought. Because the houseguest felt as though Brian had made many scandalous deals in the first few hours of the show's premiere-leaving him to be the biggest threat in the game. He was arrogant, cocky, and simply couldn't be trusted. He had to go! As Brain departed, he expressed to Julie Chen that Memphis, the charismatic "Mixologist," is playing the game well; and the houseguests should keep a close eye on him.

The New HOH

Jessie wins the challenge and is crowned the new HOH. Damn, Jess, you are stirring things up in the house in a serious way! First you were nominated almost getting your behind sent home, then you win the POV and saved yourself from possibly being evicted, and lastly you win HOH. I hope Jessie knows what he's doing, because all that victory and competitiveness surely put a target on his back, I think. But when Jessie won HOH, I couldn't help but to notice the sour faces from the houseguests; the majority didn't seem too thrilled about the win.

So ... who will Jessie, the 22-year-old Professional Bodybuilder, nominate for next week's eviction? Check back next week and read my recap and commentary.

Kisses and Competitions,

Nikki
