VOTING FOR INDIVIDUAL DANCERS BEGINS ON SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

This week’s guest judge was Lil C.  Bad news arrived at the beginning of the show.  Jessica broke two ribs and is out of the competition as a result.  The producers felt the fairest thing to do was bring back the last girl eliminated, which of course is Comfort.  I about died.  She lasted three weeks longer than I wanted her to and now she’s back.  I understand the show’s reasoning on who should come back.  But I don’t agree that she should have the chance to compete against the other dancers.  She should have been there simply so the odd guy out (Twitch) would have a partner for this week.  I think it should be an automatic elimination for her tomorrow night along with the guy with the least votes.

This week the couples were split apart and new partnerships were formed.  In addition to each couple dancing two numbers, each of the top 10 dancers did a solo number so that we could decide who we wanted to vote for on an individual basis since the eliminations will now be based on lowest individual votes and not couple votes.

Here were this week’s couple routines and my thoughts on those:

Joshua & Courtney performed a HIP-HOP number first.  I thought it was genius choreography and I also thought they danced it really well.  Their second routine was a RUMBA.  As usual Courtney looked stunning and Joshua looked sexy as all heck.  He made a joke about competing with Will and Twitch taking their shirts off.   I don’t think there’s any competition to be had.  As if his body is not sexy enough, look at that face, those dimples, that smile!  Joshua has the entire package and I am sure the young girls in the audience are drooling whether his shirt is on or off!  As for this new duo – they are one hot combo!

Kherington & Mark’s first performance was a COUNTRY TWO-STEP.  Darn, that was a lot of spinning around.  I loved watching it and I didn’t see all the technical errors that Mary saw.  Seeing it in slow motion afterwards I understood where she was coming from.  Their second routine was a JAZZ number.  When this girl dances I can’t take my eyes off of her.  I never even saw Mark in this number.  Not that he’s not a great dancer, he is.  But she has that star-quality stage presence that just captures your attention and keeps you focused on her.

Chelsie & Gev performed a CONTEMPORARY piece first.  I thought it was a strange routine but I thought the dancing was brilliant nonetheless.  Their second number was a JIVE.  That was a darn fast number and I enjoyed every step of it.

Comfort & Twitch performed a SMOOTH WALTZ first.  It was just o.k. for me.  I didn’t feel any chemistry between these too and I felt bad for Twitch because I think he deserves a more accomplished partner at this point in the competition.  Their second routine was a HIP-HOP number.  Comfort redeemed herself in my eyes, at least for the night.  Both of them nailed it and in spite of the waltz that was just o.k., I don’t think Twitch is going home any time soon.

Katee & Will performed a BROADWAY number first.  Now everyone knows how much I love Tyce’s choreography but I didn’t care much for this number.  But it didn’t matter because Katee & Will rocked the number and they rocked my boat too.  Their second performance was a BALLET.  There was actually a different name used for this type of dance but I had never heard of it before so I can’t repeat it here in my blog.  It’s a type of ballet so we’ll stick with that label and keep it simple. I may not know what to call it but what I can tell you is that it was a brilliant piece of choreography with brilliant dancing, and it touched me so deeply I cried all the way through it.

These were my top three couple dances of the night:

Katee & Will (Ballet)
Joshua & Courtney (Rumba)
Comfort & Twitch (Hip-Hop)

These are my top three girls left in the competition:

Kherington – Courtney - Chelsea

These are my top three guys left in the competition:

Joshua – Will - Twitch

Going home?  Comfort & Mark – that’s my hunch for this week.
