LAST COMIC STANDING HOLDS INTERNATIONAL AUDITIONS IN MIAMI

By: Mary Cavaliere

Five continents and over twenty countries competed during the International Auditions for Last Comic Standing held in Miami.  This week's talent scouts were Keith Powell and Lonny Ross from the hit television show 30 Rock.

I was a little disappointed that Italy wasn't represented.  What?  No Italian humor out there?  C'mon, we've been the butt of many American jokes for years!  In fact, I happened to notice that most of the comics shown during the live performance were from England.  Is that possibly because their humor translates the easiest?

There was one comic that made me laugh my you know what off during the preliminary round and that was Lioz Shem Tov from Israel.   When he finally performed in front of the audience I laughed so hard I was in tears.   He was hysterical!

There were two other comics that caught my eye and I was pretty happy they both made it through to the semi-finals.  I thoroughly enjoyed Shazia Mirza, the Muslim from England and I enjoyed Papa CJ from India even more.  I was a little worried when they announced Jim Tavare from England made it through and that there was only one more comic chosen after him.  Because Last Comic Standing ticked me off the last few weeks with how many comics they were letting through and who they were letting through, I was worried that Papa CJ wasn't going to make it.  I was close to vowing to never tune again if he didn't get a red envelope!

The rest of the show reminded us of the 32 semi-finalists chosen to go to Las Vegas.  Gentlemen.....and Ladies.....start your engines, good luck, and LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN!
