Auditions continued at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco. Hey, that's my neck of the woods! I have been to Cobbs once or twice so I'm sorry I missed the filming of the showcase there that they aired tonight. Maybe I would have found the comics that performed funnier than I did watching after the fact. Was it bad editing and I didn't get to see enough of each person's act? The only one that stood out for me that made it through to the next round was Drennan Davis. I found myself laughing out loud more at the talent scouts jokes or in reaction to their laughter than I actually did with the contestants themselves.
Speaking of the talent scouts, I honestly did not know who they were until they were announced since I've never watched Chuck (Josh Gomez) and I did not recognize French Stewart even though I was an avid viewer of 3rd Rock From The Sun.
Incorporated into tonight's show was the Top 10 Worst Auditions of 2008. I hate when reality shows do this sort of thing. It's bad enough I have to sit through and watch these idiots once, but now they want me to sit and watch them twice? All I can say is thank God for Tivo and fast forward!
The show also featured the Most Shocking Audition by Shashi Bhatia. Wow was she insecure and hostile or what? She looked like she was on something to me. I hope once she sobers up she realizes that if she did have any dreams of becoming a stand-up comic, she probably ruined her career in less than one minute. If they don't think you're funny Shashi the answer isn't to reduce yourself to age four and retaliate against the people who have the power to move you forward. The answer is to work at it a little bit harder and come back the following year. I think it would be best if you found something else to pursue. In all actuality, the only thing funny about Shashi's act was French Stewart's date rape joke after she left.
Auditions then moved to Toronto. The featured judges were David Foley from News Radio and Richard Kind who used to be on Mad About You (and who I fondly remember even more from Spin City).
Again the talent scouts found the contestants much funnier than I did. I was glad to see, however, that both Shawn Vullen and Winston Spear made it through because both of them did make me laugh out loud once or twice.
