Homeward LA 2019

Casting for Homeward LA 2019.

Homeward LA 2019 is a citywide event (April 26th– May 5th) showcasing 11 monologues based on true stories from 11 individuals who have experienced homelessness. Multiple stage productions across the city will perform these monologues with the purpose of bringing attention to the homeless crisis in Los Angeles, while raising funds for The Midnight Mission, an amazing nonprofit on Skid Row

Though creating high-quality production is a priority, Homeward LA 2019 is also a community outreach/fundraising event seeking to inspire action around the homeless crisis. We hope to cast actors who are passionate about this cause and excited to share their participation with family and friends.

If cast, in general, actors will be asked to meet with their director 2-3 times to rehearse and 1 more time for a tech/run through. Most shows will have 1-2 performances.

Roles:
[CARMELITA]
30 to 60 years old, Black/African American female. CARMALETA (30s to 60s) – Female. African-American, Hispanic, Ethnically Ambiguous. Sturdy, former security guard, caring, proud, protective, committed to her faith

[TEE]
30 to 50 years old, Black/African American male. TEE (30s to 50s) – Male. African-American. Kid at heart, charismatic, puts up a tough exterior and knows what it means to survive

[BRIAN]
30 to 50 years old, Hispanic male. BRIAN (30s to 50s) – Male. Non-Binary / Non Conforming. Any Ethnicity. Expressive, passionate, drag artist, but monologue will not be performed in drag

[ABRAHAM]
20 to 40 years old, Black/African American male. ABRAHAM (late 20s-40s) – Male, African-American. Charming, extroverted and streetwise

[BOBBIE JO]
30 to 40 years old, Hispanic female. BOBBIE JO (30s to 40s) – Female. Hispanic/Latina. Former addict, spit-fire, against all odds, loyal mother, a fighter, tenacious, former addict

• In the email body, please include your availability during April 26th – May 5th to help us determine which production’s tech rehearsal and performances best align with your schedule

Create a Self Tape (iPhone is fine):
• Slate your name and role at the start
• Read the sides (no need to be memorized, but familiarize yourself with the material)
• If you plan to apply for more than one role, please submit separate videos per role
