We recently had the opportunity to drop in at Cornwell Casting and ask the casting directors a few questions about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to applying to reality TV shows. They gave us some great tips, so be sure to watch the videos below.

Here are some pointers the casting directors gave about applying to reality TV shows:

Jason Cornwell, who was on The Real World Boston and has been in casting ever since said “Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. We want to see who you are. Don’t be late and do look your best”.

Damon Collazo, who has worked on Beauty and The Geek, National Bingo Night, Vh1’s Tough Love and many other shows said “It’s an interview, so look presentable and show up on time. We are looking for real people. If your on the fence about applying, just do it, you never know what could happen and it could change your life”.

Tony Miros, who has worked on 3 The Real Worlds (Denver, Sydney and Hollywood), Money Runners, First Love Second Chance for TV Land and many more said “Just be yourself when you are talking to us. Just express yourself the way you want to be presented. Just trust in yourself.”

Lexi Meece, who has worked on many Cartoon Network pilots said “Just be yourself and if you want to be on a reality TV just let yourself go.”

Jodi Thomas, who has worked on shows like The Biggest Loser, Deal or No Deal, Opportunity Knocks, Beauty and The Geek, Show Me The Money, Music Star, Dance Machine and plenty of MTV shows said “I can tell who is going to be on a show in two seconds. It’s something behind them, it’s a story they have. The number one factor is that they are rootable. If I look at them and go, I am going to watch them 24/7 then they will get it. Always have eye contact and rephrase questions to us and give us a lot of stories. Tangents are amazing.”
