After a remarkable performance that brought on standing ovation from the coaches, Team Pharrell's Emily Keener was sent home in a shocking elimination on "The Voice" this week.
In an interview with the singer, Keener says, "I was shocked, honestly. After that performance, I really thought I'd be hanging around for a couple more weeks," but that now she's "kind of at peace with it."
Keener really showed the true artist within when she sang "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" for her save performance, which sadly didn't pay off. She explained, "I just really wanted to hammer it into people's heads that I don't do this to be popular. I could've gone with a more modern choice, and that may have been a better strategy in the long run if continuing on the show was my ultimate goal."
As a junior in high school, Emily plans to get back into the grind "writing songs, recording as much as I can. I'm planning to have a new record - a really intense new record - out very soon. And this year is going to be a busy one."
After a great run on "The Voice" which we think was too short, Emily says, "I feel like I'm leaving the show with many more tools in my arsenal than what I began with."
"The Voice" airs on Mondays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
