Generations Riviera Maya Resort in Mexico has invited Kate to celebrate the big 4 0. The kids think they aren't invited and even cry thinking that their mother is leaving them for a few days. But then out comes the cake that says, "quieres venir conmigo?" (do you want to come with me?). Yes. Yes, they do.

Kate is less than thrilled about the impending 40th birthday, even shuddering every time she says the f-word. Her adorable kids (adorable is not the word used for the sassy teens) are eager to help her celebrate, though. They are each given 200 pesos to spend on their madre and overwhelmingly cute Colin bargains with the shop keeper to bring the perfect present home.

Day 1: Snorkeling with turtles - Get over the seaweed, Kate, those turtles are worth it. Next up is the Mayan Ruins. Although the crew couldn't film there, the family could take pictures and film on their own devices. Many of the kids saying it was their favorite part of the trip... "the ancient place that got ruined".

Day 2: Kate's actual birth day & mud buggy driving - Get over the mud, Kate, driving through those puddles is worth it. White knuckling their handles, the kids are excited to get started. Kate, however, is too cautious to be reckless with her children in the same vehicle. Through clenched teeth Kate gives it another go, mud all around! Next up, drinks with a friend (Deanna is Kate's make up artist she met 8 years ago) in Playa Del Carmen. Mango mojitos, bubblegum martinis, glittery dresses... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATE!

Day 3: The final day - pool, beach and a birthday party. Four of the kids chose to get a baking lesson at the resort and prepare the birthday cake(s). Boys vs girls. I suppose a family of 9 does need two cakes per celebration. Looks...... um..... yummy. Presents time! Lots and lots of turtles.

Kate, you look damn good for 40! Tomorrow night, there will be another Kate Plus 8 Special for the sextuplets 11th birthday on TLC. Don't miss it!
