RHONY - Battle of the Alpha Housewives

If you can recall, Ramona has rubbed pretty much everyone the wrong way during her career as a Bravo housewife. This season, the ladies are already noticing a change about her. Heather attributes the "softer" demeanor of her fellow housewife to she and Mario's public breakup. She felt that since Ramona could no longer pretend that everything was perfect between her and Mario, she had no choice but to be a less volatile woman. I'm sorry for what happened to Ramona, but anything that makes that Singer Stinger less sharp is good news, because she was brutal!

Case in point, the time she told LuAnne she was happily married for 18 years and that LuAnne should hope that she would be married for half that long and made a comment about her ex-husband cheating all the time. When the producers flashed back to that, it was a perfect contrast to show how far Ramona has fallen. Now it's her that has the cheating husband. Ramona offered LuAnne the most sincere apology I have ever heard her utter. There was no trace of the usual indignation and denial that typically accompanies her sarcastic apologies. She even started to tear up when she was telling LuAnne how wrong she was.

It seems that Ramona has or is trying to  change, but leave it to Bethany to drag the old Ramona out of her. In her first time taping with all the ladies, Bethany joined them all in the Hamptons and they all had different reactions on meeting her. Kristin felt like she knew who Bethany was from TV and then realized that she actually had to get to know her. Dorinda felt she had a strong, almost mannish demeanor, but that she liked that in a fellow woman. On the other hand, she and Ramona were like two prize fighters, circling each other, trying to figure out who was going to take the first jab.

Bethany wanted the ladies to go see her house, so she invited everyone over for brunch the next morning. As soon as Sonja showed interest, Ramona burst out with "Sonja, you're my guest and your'e not going anywhere". Seriously? It was like she was a pre-schooler laying claim to her favorite crayons during art time. She wanted Bethany to "ask permission" to invite her guest over and said that anyone with manners would have done so. Uh, no! Last time anyone checked, Sonja was a grown woman.

Furthermore, she tried to insinuate that she had emailed brunch plans to everyone, but no one ever got the email. Then she launched into a lame excuse about her emails being broken and that's when I knew the old Ramona was creeping back. Bethany tried to walk away, but Ramona hunted her down. That's when Bethany politely acknowledged that Ramona was going through a hard time but said she didn't want to hang out with her. Ouch!

Carol commented that their argument was like the battle of the alpha dogs. I agree and I think it pretty much set the tone for Bethany's return and the rest of the season. Stay tuned to find out!
